2 The reader should refer tothe regulations for a legal several years now, the minist re desTransports du Qu bec has been workingat harmonizing Qu bec standards withthose of other North American adminis-trations. However, in spite of efforts toharmonize the standards with those ofother administrations, some differencesmay remain. It is therefore important to verify applicable rules before drivingin these administrations with vehicles that comply with Qu bec regulations. 3 Theregulations are in conformity with theFederal-Provincial-Territorial Agreementon Vehicle Weights and Dimensions datedFebruary 1988(amended in September1991, July 1994 and June 1997). Thisregulation defines limits of dimensions, axle loads and gross weight for vehiclestravelling on public roads. It do notapply to vehicles designed tofight vehicle or a combina-tion of vehicles whichdo not meet the stan-dards set by this reg-ulation cannot travelon public roads unlesstheir owner or lesseehas obtained a specialpermit delivered for thispurpose. Special permits arerequired for experimental vehicles or oversize and overweight vehicles because of their design ( self-propelled crane) or becausethey are carrying an indivisible load ( moving a house). This GUIDE does not address regulatorymeasures applied to vehicles travellingon the special class public road whichprovides access to the James BayTerritory or at crossroads where publicroads meet private roads.

4 For specificinformation, please refer to the legal Soci t de l assurance automobile duQu bec must approve any modificationto a road vehicle meant to travel on pub-lic road, when such modification mayalter stability or braking ( increase infront axle capacity). To convert pounds into kilograms (kg),the number of pounds (lb) is divided Likewise, to convert tire widthsfrom inches into millimetres, the numberof inches is multiplied by LOAD AND SIZE LIMITS GUIDE , MINIST RE DES TRANSPORTS DU QU BECDEFINITIONS36A.
