5 Wallace COPE Center (South) staff, welcome to the 2017 - 2018 school year! Whether new to COPE or returning, we look forward to building a partnership between you and the school which will hopefully last for many years. We are committed to making your child s year(s) filled with positive and enriching experiences. Our staff is excited about working with you, your daughter and your grandchild and being, like you, an important advocate for your child and her learning. We seek to make COPE Center (South) a joyful place for our teen parent(s) and their families.

6 As parents, it is essential that you take an active role in your child s educational program and we encourage you to join the PTA, EESAC, be an active volunteer, and participate in parent-teacher conferences and activities. Most importantly, you should maintain close contact with your child s teacher(s). Ask questions about her progress and about what you can do to support learning at home. Additionally, I strongly encourage you to utilize the parent portal that is available through the Miami- dade county public Schools(M-DCPS) internet where you can monitor your child s academic progress.

7 We believe that your child's success in school is dependent upon good communication between school and home. We encourage your participation and invite you to express your suggestions or concerns. Please refer to this handbook throughout the school year as a reference. It should provide the answers to most questions, but feel free to telephone us or stop by the school office should you need more information. I am looking forward to what I know will be a most successful school year.
