1 SEIU Local 517M. 2018 . Scholarship Program Rules and Conditions of the SEIU 517M. Scholarship Award Program Eight $500 non-renewable scholarships will be awarded each year to students based on successful completion of the application process and meeting of the criteria stated below. Awards will be made via a lottery system from all eligible submissions. Eligibility: The SEIU Local 517M Scholarship is open to any member in good standing, child, stepchild, or adopted child of an SEIU Local 517M member in good standing as defined by the SEIU Local 517M Bylaws. Graduate from any high school (or equivalent) and be enrolled as a student in an accredited college, university, community college, or trade school as a freshman; or be returning to an accredited college, university, community college, or trade school as a sophomore, junior or senior as of the fall of 2018 .

2 Application Instructions: Complete all sections of this application. Incomplete applications will be disqualified. On a separate piece of paper submit a brief essay of no less than 500 words describing why unions are important and a brief paragraph of no less than 100 and no more than 250 words on your career goals. Winning a Scholarship award from SEIU Local 517M Scholarship Program does not guarantee entrance to a trade school, college or university. To Complete the Reimbursement Process if Awarded a Scholarship : Students must submit a receipt of expenses incurred from their first semester from the accredited college, university, community college, or trade school they are currently enrolled in.

3 There are no restrictions as to the curriculum a student may follow. Submit a transcript from the first semester from an accredited college, university, community college they are currently enrolled in showing academic good standing or a letter of academic good progress from a trade school. Receipts and transcript (or letter of academic good progress), need to be received by the Union no later than 45 days after the end of the semester. General Information: Continuation of the SEIU 517M Scholarship Program is subject to annual review by the SEIU 517M Executive Officers and approval of their actions by the SEIU Executive Board.

4 All matters pertaining to this Scholarship awards Program will be handled by the SEIU 517M Scholarship Committee and the SEIU 517M Executive Officers. Scholarships are awarded without regard to gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or political affiliation of the applicant.
