Some even get upset when werefuse to jump off of that high cliff. Folks, we don't havea crystal ball and surely you aren't that gullible. But whenthe conversation begins with "give me your max load for.."we have to pause. The best advice I can give is never, neverstart Loading with a max load. The key to that statement is"start". A load labeled max isn't a load that will reduce yourrifle to a pile of recyclable material.

It is a load that registeredmaximum allowable pressures with that particular combina-tion of components in that test rifle. Using a max load is allow-able and even desirable sometimes. If the proper steps aretaken when working up a load to a near max or maximumload level, no unusual dangers should be encountered. Butskip a step and look out! Here is a recommended your powder, case, primer and bullet combination with acompatible overall cartridge length. Check your favorite man-ual or consult several. Pick a load level no higher than mid-range for that powder bullet combination. Increase yourcharges incrementally no more than 1% of the total casecapacity of your cartridge for that powder and fire at leastthree cartridges for each charge level. Examine each seriesvery carefully watching for excessive pressure symptoms suchas a combination of cratered primers, flat primers or even aslight hitch in the bolt lift.

There can be a bright spot on thebase of the case indicating brass flow. Any of these by them-selves may not be indicative of extreme pressures but all ofthem combined will surely tell the experienced reloader thathe has gone beyond the maximum charge level for this com-bination of components in that rifle. The prudent reloader willreduce this load to a level that eliminates the brass this is a max level load it only rates a yellow cautionwhen repeated because it was carefully worked up and estab-lished in this rifle even though it may or may not be above themaximum loads shown in various manuals. It was proven safein this rifle with these components at that temperature. But tostart at a maximum charge level established even after care-ful research from several different and reputable manualsthen averaging for a maximum start level would be foolishand possibly very dangerous and definitely rates a red stoplight.

DON'T DO IT!!Max Load: When and Whereby Rich MachholzMarge Constantino of LaPorte, Colorado shot this nice buckwith Sierra 's .270 caliber, 90 grain Hollow Point with of IMR 4064. Another of Marge's one shot kills!!Usually I like to bring you a tip on how to get better accuracy, but in this issue I've got something more important to talk toyou about. It's the 2nd Amendment. Never before has it beenunder attack like today. Our Constitution has been the veryfoundation for this country. In a word, it is freedom. The pricefor freedom is blood. Countless Americans have given theirlives to uphold the Constitution. Many of you might say "butwhat can I do, I'm only one person?". Maybe you've let yourNRA membership expire and haven't gotten around to renew-ing it. The time is now. Maybe your shooting buddy has neverjoined. Get him signed up.

NRA memberships make greatbirthday or Christmas gifts for anyone. Even the landownerwho lets you deer hunt each year. NRA memberships are agreat way of saying "thanks for letting me hunt". Future battlesfor the Constitution will be fought on home soil. Freedom isup to us. The time is Time Is Nowby Paul Box
