The Si9979 is configured toallow either 60 or 120 commutation sensor spacing.
2 Theinternal low-voltage regulator allows operation over a wideinput voltage range, 20 to 40 V Si9979 provides commutation from Hall-effect integral high-side drive, which utilizes combination boot-strap/charge pump supplies, allows implementation of an allN-Channel MOSFET 3-Phase bridge. PWM, direction, quadrature select, and braking inputs are included for controlalong with a tachometer output. Protection features includecross conduction protection, current limiting, and undervolt-age lockout. The FAULT output indicates when undervolt-age, over current, disable, or invalid sensor shutdown Si9979 is available in both standard and lead (Pb)-free48-pin SQFP packages and is specified to operate over thecommercial temperature range of 0 to 70 C (C suffix), andthe industrial temperature range of - 40 to 85 C (D suffix).

E, 21-Jun-04 Vishay SiliconixSi9979 PIN CONFIGURATION AND ORDERING INFORMATIONPIN DESCRIPTIONPins 1-3: INA, INB, INCINA, INB, and INC are the commutation sensor inputs, andare intended to be driven by open collector Hall effectswitches.
8 These inputs have internal pull up resistors tied toVDD, which eliminates the need for external pull up 4: 60/120 The 60/120 input allows the use of the Si9979 with either a60 or 120 commutation sensor spacing. An internal pull upresistor, which is tied to VDD, sets the default condition to 60 spacing. 120 spacing is selected by pulling this input 5: EN (Enable)A logic "1" on this input allows commutation of the is the default condition as this pin is pulled up this pin is pulled to ground, all gate drive outputs areturned 6: F/R (Forward/Reverse)A logic "1" on this input selects commutation for Motor rota-tion in the "forward" direction.
9 This is the default condition asthis pin is pulled up internally. When this pin is pulled toground, the commutation sensor logic levels are invertedinternally, causing reverse 7: QS (Quadrature Select)This input determines whether the bottom MOSFETs or bothbottom and top MOSFETs switch in response to the PWMsignal. A logic "1" on this input enables only the bottom MOS-FETs. This is the default condition as this pin is pulled upinternally. When this pin is pulled to ground, both the bottomand top MOSFETs are 8: PWMAn open collector (drain) or TTL compatible signal is appliedto this input to control the Motor speed.
10 The QS input deter-mines which MOSFETs are switched in response to thePWM signal. If no PWM signal is being used, this input is leftopen. It is pulled up internally, which allows the MOSFETs tofollow the commutation 45 44 43 42 41 40 39 38 3715 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 243635343332313029282726 Top ViewGNDGNDGNDGNDGNDV+GNDGNDGNDGNDGNDGNDG NDGNDGND48 47 GNDGND13 14 GNDGND25 VDDINAIS-IS+/CTRTRTORDERING INFORMATION StandardPart NumberLead (Pb)-free Part NumberTemperature RangePackageSi9979 CSSi9979CS-E30 to 70 CSQFP-48Si9979 DSSi9979DS-E3- 40 to 85 CNOTE: Si9979CS and Si9979DS are supplied in Number: 70012S-41209-Rev.
