The Family consists of Layer 2/3/4 FastEthernet and Power over Ethernet switches, withadvanced features that can accommodate the mostdemanding applications, offering resilient and secureconnectivity and the latest traffic-prioritizationtechnologies to optimize applications on convergednetworks. Designed for maximum flexibility andscalability, 3 Com Switch 5500 models come with 24 or48 10/100 ports, plus four active SFP-based GigabitEthernet ports for stacking and switches can be stacked up to eight units high inone location, or they can be distributed over severalsites up to 70 km ( miles) apart and connected viaGigabit links to form a virtual stack.
