Prayer of Invocation Judy Connell 1st service Don Schalekamp 2nd service God of cleansing water and purifying fires, touch our lives today to recall us to the power of our baptism and reconfirm our commitment to Jesus Christ. Name us again as your own people: precious, gifted, created to glorify you in fullness of life, in peace with ourselves and one another. Send your Holy Spirit once more to energize our WORSHIP and enliven our witness in the world. Hear us as we pray for one another and for your Church in every place. Amen. Prelude Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee arr. Sprunger WE PRAISE. Chimes on the Hour *Call to WORSHIP *Hymn #63. As with Gladness Men of Old WE CONFESS. *Call to Confession 4. *Prayer of Confession (together). Merciful God, in baptism you promise forgiveness and new life, making us part of the body of Christ. We confess that we remain preoccupied with ourselves, separated from sisters and brothers in Christ.

5 We cling to destructive habits, hold grudges, and show reluctance to welcome one another; we allow the past to hold us hostage. In your loving kindness, have mercy on us, and free us from sin. Remind us of the promises you make in baptism so that we may rise to new life, and live together in grace. In Jesus' name. Amen. *Declaration of Pardon Leader: Friends, believe the good news of the Gospel. People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. *Congregational Response (together). Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, World without end. Amen, Amen. *Affirmation of Faith - The Apostles' Creed (together). I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead.

6 He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church ; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. 5. WE SHARE. *Passing of the Peace (Children may come forward at this time for the Children's Moment). Leader: May the peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you. *Response Come, Thou Fount of every blessing, Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;. Streams of mercy, never ceasing, Call for songs of loudest praise. Praise Him all creatures here below;. Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. *Prayer of Dedication WE PROCLAIM. *Hymn #376. Love Divine, All Loves Excelling The Lesson Luke 3: 15-22. As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah, John answered all of them by saying, I baptize you with water; but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I. am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.

8 So, with many other exhortations, he proclaimed the good news to the people. But Herod the ruler, who had been rebuked by him because of Herodias, his brother's wife, and because of all the evil things that Herod had done, added to them all by shutting up John in prison. Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.. Leader: This is the Word of the Lord! People: Thanks be to God! 7. Sermon The Other Side of the River Dr. Stephen D. McConnell WE GO. *Hymn #359. More Love to Thee, O Christ *Benediction *Benediction Response Grant us thy peace upon our homeward way;.
