It is a federally funded program through a grant awarded to run an after-school program with a multitude of academic enrichment and youth development services. What is the purpose? Our purpose is to create community learning centers that provide academic enrichment and youth development opportunities for children grades K-5. Families can receive ideas for literacy and related educational development. What is our goal? Our goal is to make sure all students receive varied opportunities with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in college and careers as we aligned the program to match NYS educational guidelines. Who can attend? The program is offered the students in grades K-5 that attend our Primary and Intermediate Schools.

3 Where, When & Transportation? The program will begin in October 2017 and run through May 2018. The YMCA has a cost based program in September and June. Your child will attend program based on the school they are assigned for the school day. Bussing can be provided for students who need transportation. Families can choose their own transportation on a consistent basis. Families cannot alternate between bussing and family vehicles. The program runs daily with the exception of school holidays and closures. How do I register? Enrollment forms will be available via the district s website and in the Primary and Intermediate School offices. Is there a cost? No! Funding is provided by the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant therefore it is free to all that attend.

4 Please be advised there are fees for families wishing to utilize the YMCA for after-school care in September and in June. Also, a cost applies if you choose to enroll until 6:00 extended childcare. Mission Statement Maryvale Union Free School District is a welcoming community that provides opportunities to grow as responsible, productive and involved citizens who possess self-motivation, a love of learning and respect for self and others. C. Program Philosophy All children are unique having different experiential backgrounds, needs, skills, talents, abilities, interests, learning styles and rates.

5 Our purpose is to provide a safe, caring, creative and challenging learning environment that will support and encourage each student to develop to their fullest potential intellectually, emotionally, socially, and physically. Education is a partnership of school, home and community. All players have both rights and responsibilities within that partnership to support our students in order for them to become independent and contributing members of their community and of the global society. ARRIVAL, DISMISSAL & ABSENCES A. Arrival Staff members from the 21 st century and the YMCA will escort students from their dismissal point to their first session. Attendance is taken at each rotate session. B. Early Dismissal/Appointments If you want your child to leave 21 st Century for an appointment (health matter), please send your child with a note so we know of your arrival.

8 Please be aware that identification will be asked for each time an early departure is needed. We will only release children to the individuals you selected in your enrollment packet. We ask that the caregiver wait and the child will be delivered to you. We utilize an identification called Raptor, the system is part of an ongoing security upgrades throughout the Maryvale Schools. To keep our children safe, it is very important that we follow this procedure and minimize the numbers of adults walking throughout the school building. Your child may need to clean up his/her activity and gather belongings before leaving the classroom and depending on the activity, this can take time. However, if we know in advance of your arrival we will be able to lessen your wait time. C.

9 Dismissal Your cooperation during dismissal is needed to ensure that you and your child(ren) are safe. Dismissal starts at approximately 5:05 Please enter at via the main entrances Check-in with staff and be prepared to show identification each time.. All children must be signed out by a designated parent/guardian in order to ensure they are in the custody of you or a designated adult. If you need to send another person to pick up your child that is not noted on their initial paperwork, please call the school office or the 21st Century office to provide us with the person s name. We understand that there are times when emergencies arise and that you may not be able to pick up your child in a timely manner. If you know that you will be late for dismissal, you must call the school as we only have partial faculty available for a selected time span to cover this occurrence.

10 The following actions will take place for chronic late pick- up: 1 st Late : verbal warning to family member 2 nd Late : verbal warning plus letter given to family 3 rd Late :student will be dismissed from program. Every effort to contact the parent/guardian or their Emergency Contact(s) to inform them that the child has not been picked up will be made. D. Absences If your child is absent from the regular school day, he/she is not allowed to attend the 21 st Century Program. We ask that you please send in an absence note with your child on the day that they return to school. We will place the notes in his/her file, which is kept along with the application in the Program Office. Absences from the program due to a religious holiday and/or religious instruction are considered excused absences, however, still require a note.
