Elderly in ONGC Operational Areas: Quick facts % of the elders are not economically active, the same for elder women is alarmingly high at 30% of the elders consume tobacco, gutkha, beedi and cigarette Joint pain and Hypertension, Asthma, diabetes, heart problem and ulcers. 4% of these elders suffer from some form of disability. Key factors taken into consideration Percentage of total elderly, gender wise distribution and their age group wise distribution to profile vulnerability Educational attainments Occupational status Disability among the elders Disease Profile among the elders Habits and substance abuse The Case of Malkipuram A Mandal in East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh Ten villages: Karava, Torpu Pallem, Golla Palem, Kesanapalli, Padamati Pallem, Gudapali, Chintala Mori, Sankaraguptham, Kesavadasu Pallem, Tatipaka 3903 households with 13039 persons and 5277 elders of the families Below Poverty Line of the population were more than 55 years of age.
