A number of new terms andabbreviations have been introduced as a result of the new planning system and a glossary is provided at theend of this document for Mid Suffolk Local plan ( Adopted 1998) will be replaced by the LDF.

6 The new LDF will be a folder thatwill hold a number of documents. It includes a Statement of Community Involvement, setting out how theconsultation will take place for each document prepared, a Local Development Scheme, setting out the timetableand plan for the preparation of planning documents, and an Annual Monitoring LDF will also include the Development plan Documents (DPDs) consisting of the Core strategy , SiteSpecific Allocations and Policies, Generic Development Control Policies and Proposals map. These providethe main set of planning policies and proposals replacing those in the Mid Suffolk Local plan , taking into accountthe local demands of development and growth, while seeking to protect the environment and well-being of of these documents and the timescale for their preparation can be found in the Council's LocalDevelopment Mid Suffolk Local Development FrameworkMid Suffolk Core strategy ( September 2008 )2 Core such time as all DPDs are completed and Adopted , saved policies from the Mid Suffolk Local plan (1998)

7 Will continue to form part of the policy context for planning decisions. The list of saved policies is outlinedon the website and will be updated through the Local Development Scheme and Annual Monitoring document and all other related reports referred to in this document that are produced by Mid SuffolkDistrict Council can be found on the Council's website at under the heading 'LocalDevelopment Framework'.The Core document will be the LDF s key strategic planning document guided by sustainable developmentprinciples. It will perform the following functions:define a spatial vision for Mid Suffolk District to 2025set out a number of objectives to achieve the visionset out a spatial development strategy to meet these objectivesset out strategic policies to guide and control the overall scale, type and location of new developmentset out the broad location of new housing and employment land necessary to meet the requirements ofthe regional spatial strategy .

8 Andset out a monitoring and implementation Core strategy does not include details of site allocations or development control policies fordevelopment, these will be set out in separate DPDs to be prepared later in the LDF process. The Core Strategyalso sets the context for the preparation of all other Development plan Documents, which have to be in conformitywith the Core number of supporting documents have been prepared to support the Core strategy including: aSustainability Appraisal Report, an Appropriate Assessment, a Statement of Consultation and BackgroundPapers on the Settlement Hierarchy, Housing, Retail and Employment.

9 These are all available to downloadfrom our strategy significant stages in the Council's preparation of the Core strategy can be summarised as follows:evidence gathering, development and appraisal of options in consultation with a variety of stakeholdersRegulation 25 (May 2002 - February 2007)public participation on preferred options. Regulation 26 (21st May 2007 - 2nd July 2007)submission of draft Core strategy to the Secretary of State and public participation on its contentsRegulation 28 and 29 and 32 (October/ November 2007)independent examination of the draft Core strategy by the Planning Inspectorate (May 2008 );receipt of the Inspectors Report, which will be binding upon the Council (August 2008 ); andadoption of the Core strategy by the Council ( September /October 2008 ).

10 Part of the preparation of the Core strategy several formal and informal consultation exercises wereundertaken from 2001 up to 2007, to discuss local issues and options for the future development of the addition, consultations were forwarded to and several meetings were held with service providers, statutorybodies and key organisations to obtain additional information for inclusion in the Core strategy or to consideroptions 'Core strategy preparation Process' shows the stages involved in the preparation of the CoreStrategy and the outputs to each of the statutory processes required.
