2 There is scientific agreement that eating a healthy diet rich infruits and vegetables and moving our bodies more is beneficial for health. Prevention is power-ful. It saves lives, lessens the human burden of illness, lowers health care costs and preserves ourquality of life. The Division of Public Health is dedicated to eliminating health disparities, but we knowthat we cannot do it alone. It will take a host of resources both human and financial toimprove the health of African-American North Carolinians and to close the health gap.

3 Faithcommunities are essential to this effort. The African-American Churches eating Smart and MovingMore: A Planning and Resource Guideis made available by the Division of Public Health. ThisGuide includes resources and planning tools for Churches of any size with the intent of foster-ing collaboration between faith leaders and community health you think that eating smart and moving more is too difficult, remember that simplechanges, such as offering fruits and vegetables at all church functions or including physicalactivity messages in sermons, can make a big difference in supporting healthy lifestyles amongfaith community members.
