2 The alloymaintains good strength and oxidation resistance attemperatures up to about 1300 F (700 C). The limitingchemical composition is given in Table 1. The alloy isaustenitic in all metallurgical high strength and excellent fabricationcharacteristics of INCOLOY alloy A-286 make thealloy useful for various components of aircraft andindustrial gas turbines. It is also used for fastenerapplications in automotive engine and manifoldcomponents subject to high levels of heat and stress andin the offshore oil and gas physical properties at room temperature areshown along with melting range in Table 2.

6 Figure 1shows the effect of temperature on tensile alloy A-286 has good creep-rupture strengthduring extended high-temperature exposure. Figure 2 showsstresses for 100 and 1000 hour rupture lives at varioustemperatures. 7 The alloy hasexcellent resistance to oxidation at service temperatures up toabout 1300 F (700 C).FFaabbrriiccaattiioonnINCOLOY alloy A-286 is readily fabricated by standardprocedures for stainless steels and nickel forming should be done on material in thesolution-treated condition. Procedures, forces, and work-hardening rates are similar to those for INCONEL alloy 600and INCOLOY alloy hot forming, the metal should be heated to 2100 F(1150 C). Any final reductions at under 1800 F (980 C)should be greater than 10% to avoid formation of largegrains during later solution treatment.
8 No forming should bedone below 1700 F (930 C).Heat treatment of INCOLOY alloy A-286 consists ofsolution treatment at either 1800 F (980 C) or 1650 F(900 C) and rapid cooling followed by age hardening at1325 F (720 C) for 16 hours and air cooling.
