Mid-Winter Conference has been transitioned VIRTUALLY on Friday, January 21st and Saturday, January 22nd, 2022. On Friday, there will be virtual workshop sessions Friday afternoon and evening; there will be seven different workshop sessions, with four different workshops being run simultaneously. With the transition to a virtual conference, all of the workshops are being recorded and will be posted on the Department website, so that you could eventually watch all of the workshops!

2 That is a positive to this transition. We are very pleased that our National President Kathy Daudistel will be with us. Her focus this year is Veteran Caregivers. Madam National President is from the Department of Kentucky, and during her homecoming celebration, they wore Kentucky Derby Hats. During her words of wisdom, let s bring Kentucky to New York and show our Kentucky spirit by wearing our Derby Hats. Please note that some of the workshop times and room assignments have been modified from the original In-Person Conference Bulletin. There will be a whole group Seminar on Saturday morning, which starts promptly at 8:30 am. Other activities include: Recognition of membership challenges listed in the Plan of Action Recognition of those members who completed their Senior Basic Course, ALA Academy classes, newly chartered Units [Refer to your Plan of Action, page 146-147]. You will have workshop handouts in this Conference Booklet. Download it for your reference, and print what materials you find helpful to you.

5 - Wear your Kentucky Derby Hat to honor our National President. 11:50 - noon - Closing Senior Mid-Winter Conference 2022 Workshop Descriptions SESSION 1: Auxiliary Emergency Fund Presenter: Ann Greaney The presenter will discuss what the Auxiliary Emergency Fund is and how we access this funding in the case of a personal or weather related disaster. Understanding Voting Strength Presenter: Betty Conger In this workshop, the presenter will break down the basics of understanding county voting strength for the Department Convention. Finance Presenter: Mary Anne Casadei, Sally Johnston Participants will learn the financial best practices for the American Legion Auxiliary . How to be a County President Presenter: Marrick McDonald This workshop will discuss what the function is of a county president, how to determine voting strength at the county level, how we can organize county government, why reporting matters, and what are some financial best practices at the county level.

6 SESSION 2: How to Revitalize a Unit Presenter: Karen St. Hilaire This workshop will show you how to increase member participation, mentor new leaders and inspire new members to join your unit. How to Work With Like Minded Organizations Presenter: Ann Marie Cerone, Judy Wallace, Marrick McDonald This workshop will discuss how to work with organizations that focus is working with veterans. This workshops builds on information discussed in Mission Training 201. Protocol Presenter: Debbie Morris Let s learn the basics for ceremonies, meetings, and flag etiquette. How to be a Unit President Presenters: Diane Craig, Lora Rowe Unit Presidents have a unique job within the Legion Family structure. The presenters will share with participants strategies and best practices for being a unit president. SESSION 3: Past President s Parley Presenter: Linda Tome This committee has evolved in the recent past. The presenter will explain the evaluation of this committee and what its purpose is in the Department of NY.

7 Family Programs Presenters: Anthony Tony Paternostro, Dept of NY American Legion Oratorical Chairman; Gabe Cinquegrana, Dept of NY Sons of the American Legion Walk-a-thon Chairman These presenters are excited to be able to share with the ALA members about the American Legion Department Oratorical Contest and the Sons of the American Legion Department Walk-A-Thon. Auxiliary members are eligible to help with these programs. Juniors Presenter: Jennifer Farley This workshop will discuss the Junior program, the Junior Patch Program, and Department Junior activities. How to Run a Meeting Presenters: Diane Craig, Lora Rowe Presiding over a meeting can be a challenging experience. This workshop will teach participants how to run a meeting and what the structure should be. SESSION 4: Empire Girls State: New EGS Chair: Now what? Presenters: Wendy Privitera, Kris Dziduch, Terri Wallace This workshop will be geared towards new unit and county membership chairman; it will show how to be an Empire Girls State Chairman.

8 All members are welcome to attend. Parliamentary Procedure: Presenter: Mary Lou Platt This workshop will teach basic parliamentary procedure. Topics included how to make a motion, how to conduct nominations, and how to bring an item from a committee to the main governing body. ALA Foundation Presenter: Cathleen MacInnes The ALA Foundation has a goal of giving 102 grants this year. The presenter will explain how to obtain grant money from the ALA Foundation and share some creative ideas for using grant money. ALA Structure: Department and National Presenter: Marrick McDonald This workshop will explain to members the structure of Department and National. SESSION 5: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation Presenter: Karen St. Hilaire This workshop will explain how we can assist our veterans and where to report each activity. This workshop will show participants how to access them. Constitution & Bylaws and Standing Rules Presenter: Marie Mock This presentation will focus on simplifying the process of updating your governing documents. We will look at updating Constitution and Bylaws and Standing Rules by using the template on the Department website and will give an easy explanation of how to write Resolutions. Children & Youth Presenter: Kim Quick The National Goal is to award 102 Good Deed and Youth Hero Awards. This workshop will explain how to meet this goal and what the Child Welfare Foundation is. Americanism Presenter: Maureen Morgan This workshop will discuss the Americanism program and highlight Flag etiquette.
