Theologically, this area of study is known asAngelology or the DOCTRINE of ANGELS . There are three main divisionsof Angelology. First, Angelology Proper, which is the DOCTRINE ofUnfallen ANGELS . Secondly, Satanology, which is the DOCTRINE ofSatan. And thirdly, Demonology, which is the DOCTRINE of FallenAngels. This study is not concerned with either Satanology orDemonology, but only with Angelology Proper or the DOCTRINE ofUnfallen are a number of wrong views regarding ANGELS . For instance, ithas been taught that ANGELS are merely transient emanations fromGod or permanent emanations from God.

It has also been taught thatangels are glorified human beings; that is, when a believer dies andgoes to Heaven, he becomes an angel. Among unbelievers, a commonteaching is that ANGELS do not exist. They believe that Yeshua (Jesus)mentioned ANGELS just to accommodate Himselfto the popularthinking of His day, but that He Himself knew ANGELS are given two specific titles in Scripture. They arecalled the ELECT ANGELS (I Tim. 5:21), which means they were elected notto fall and have been confirmed in their holiness. After God createdAdam and Eve, He subjected them to a test in the Garden to see ifthey would obey or disobey. In the same way after God created theangels, He then subjected them to a test to see if they would beobedient or disobedient.

One third ofthe ANGELS chose to bedisobedient to God and followed Satan in his fall; those ANGELS becamedemons. But two thirds of the ANGELS chose not to follow Satan, andthey have been confirmed in their holiness. Confirmed holiness MBS073 Angelology: The DOCTRINE of the ELECT AngelsPage 4 NOTESPut on the whole armor ofGod, that ye may be able tostand against the wiles of thedevil. For our wrestling is notagainst flesh and blood, butagainst the principalities, against the powers, againstthe world-rulers of thisdarkness, against the spiritualhosts of wickedness in theheavenly 6:11-12 means is that they are no longer capable of falling; the period oftesting and probation is over, and they are no longer capable ofsinning. When believers receive their resurrection bodies, they will alsobe confirmed in their holiness; and, in their resurrection bodies, theywill not be capable of sinning either.

God Himself has always beenconfirmed in His holiness; He is incapable of sinning. These unfallenangels are no longer capable of sinning, so they are calledelect second title for unfallen ANGELS isholy ANGELS , to contrast them withfallen ANGELS who are wicked and unholy (Mk. 8:38; Lk. 9:26).I. THE EXISTENCE OF ANGELSDoes the Bible really teach that ANGELS exist? ANGELS are mentioned inScripture 273 times, in 33 of the 66 books, which means that half ofthe books of the Bible mention the Old Testament, ANGELS are mentioned 108 times in 18 books:Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Judges, I and II Samuel, I and II Kings, Iand II Chronicles, Job, Psalms, Ecclesiastes, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Daniel,Hosea, and Zechariah. It should be noted that in the Old Testament, ANGELS are not only mentioned in the apocalyptic type books, but alsoin the prophetical, historical, and poetical the New Testament, ANGELS are mentioned a total of 165 times in15 books: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, II Corinthians,Galatians, Colossians, II Thessalonians, I Timothy, I and II Peter,Jude, and Revelation.

As with the Old Testament, all types of NewTestament literature mention the existence ofangels. It is obvious thatScripture clearly teaches the existence of ANGELS , from the first book,Genesis, to the last book, Revelation. ANGELS are not only mentionedin the older primitive books, but also in the later books; the mentionof ANGELS is scattered throughout the Scripture. In other words, themention of ANGELS is not peculiar to just one author, nor is it peculiarto visionary authors , Jesus Himself clearly taught the existence of ANGELS andreferred to them in every Gospel (Mat. 13:39, 41, 49; Mk. 12:25; :8-9; Jn. 1:51). IfHe taught the existence ofangels, what options dobelievers have in light of the Messiah's teaching? There are : that Yeshua was deceived. Though ANGELS do not really exist, Hetaught the existence of ANGELS and believed in the existence of , of course, would mean that He was deceived.

There are somepeople who do believe : that Jesus was being deceptive. Jesus Himself did not believein ANGELS and He knew that ANGELS did not exist; so then, He wasMBS073 Angelology: The DOCTRINE of the ELECT AngelsPage 5 NOTES merely being deceptive. Some people have taught this as : that Jesus was merely accommodating Himself. The conceptof accommodation teaches that Yeshua knew better. He was nottrying to be deceptive, but He was simply accommodating Histeachings to the common beliefs of that day so the people wouldunderstand the main truths of what He was saying. Perhaps this seemsa little better than saying He was deceptive, but actually, it comes outthe same way in the end. This was an attempt to be more : that Yeshua never mentioned the existence of ANGELS and didnot teach the existence of ANGELS ; the writers of the Gospels put thesewords into His mouth.

Therefore, it was not Yeshua who wasdeceptive, but the writers of the Gospels. But if the Gospels cannot betrusted when they quote Yeshua on ANGELS , how can they be trustedwhen they quote Him on anything? The only valid option is the fifth one: that Jesus really did believe inthe existence of ANGELS and, therefore, taught their existence, becauseangels do NAMES OF ANGELSThe Bible uses several names for these celestial first name is the most common one used: angel. The word forangel in both Hebrew and Greek means the same thing, amessenger, and it is used for human messengers (Gen. 32:3) anddivine messengers (Gen. 32:1). When it is used ofa divine messenger,it refers to an angel. This name emphasizes the office and office is that of a messenger, and the function is that of term angelis the general term used for all celestial beings.
