The fire Suppression System is designedfor use on large, off-road type construction andmining equipment (such as large excavators/shovels, draglines, haul trucks, wheeled loaders),and specialty vehicles (such as slag, pot and/or slab carriers, tunnel boring machines, solidwaste handling equipment, and forestry vehicles).These types of equipment have large volumesof oils and hydraulic fluids under fire System described is a suppressionsystem only and is not designed or intendedto extinguish all fires.

2 It is extremely importantthat alternative firefighting equipment be available in case the System does not totallyextinguish a an automatic fire detection and actuationsystem has not been supplied or has beendisconnected, System actuation and dischargewill not occur unless the fire Suppression systemis manually Ansul A-101 fire Suppression System is apre-engineered, cartridge-operated dry chemicalsystem with a fixed nozzle distribution is approved by Factory Mutual ResearchCorporation (FMRC).The System is capable of automatic detectionand actuation and/or remote manual a fire is detected, the A-101 System is actuated either manually or automatically,operating the pneumatic actuator. The pneumaticactuator ruptures a seal disc in the expellantgas cartridge. This, in turn, pressurizes and fluidizes the dry chemical extinguishing agentin the tank, ruptures the burst disc when therequired pressure is reached, and propels thedry chemical through the network of distributionhose.

Tanksfor temperature ranges of 0 C to +49 C(+32 F to +120 F) and the LT- A-101 -10, have acartridge receiver and an expellant gas cartridgelocated on the side of the tank. Low profile andextreme temperature model tanks, ( 54 C to+99 C ( 65 F to +210 F)), have a separateremote cartridge which is connected to the tankby a high pressure 1/4 in.

Agent storagetanks are availablein five sizes (10 lb., 20 lb.,30 lb., 125 lb. and 250 lb.).Mounting Bracket (10, 20, 30) Tankmounting bracket consists of a rugged, weldedsteel back plate and clamp arm bracket is designed to retain and protectthe agent storage tank in the normal hostileenvironment that these systems are installedin. The bracket is painted red enamel andcan be mounted by bolting or Data Sheet: A-101 Mounting Ring (125, 250) The mountingring for the 125, 250 tanks is fabricated of1/2 in. steel. The ring conforms to the outlineof the tank assembly bottom. The ring can bewelded to the mounting surface and the tankcan then be bolted to the ring, using theprethreaded holes in the Gas Cartridge The expellantgas cartridge is a spun high pressure cartridgecontaining either carbon dioxide for temperatureranges of 0 C to +49 C (+32 F to +120 F), or nitrogen for extreme temperature ranges of 54 C to +99 C ( 65 F to +210 F).

5 Distribution Piping (Hose) and Nozzles The distribution piping (hose) network isdesigned to properly distribute the dry chemicalto the nozzles. To survive the vibration foundon mobile equipment, hose is used to distributethe dry chemical. In the A-101 preengineeredsystem; hose sizes, maximum and minimumhose lengths, and number of nozzles are predetermined. There are three types of nozzlesavailable for the A-101 System . Each type ofnozzle has been designed and tested for variousapplications and area of coverage. Nozzleblow-off caps are available to keep the nozzlesfree of dirt and Actuator(s) The manualactuator consists of an actuator body, a nitrogencartridge, and a mounting bracket. Two typesof manual actuators are available: Remote typeand Dashboard type. The Remote type useseither the S style bracket or the cartridge guardstyle enclosure. The Dashboard type uses the L or S style mounting bracket. When the manualactuator is operated by hand, gas supplied fromthe nitrogen cartridge is released into 1/4 hose.

6 This nitrogen pressure thenoperates the pneumatic actuator that puncturesa larger expellant gas cartridge (either carbondioxide or nitrogen) and this fluidizes and propelsthe dry chemical from the agent storage actuators (a component of theautomatic detection System ) operate the sameway, except they can be operated automaticallyby the detection Detection System Three auto-matic detection systems are available for usewiththe Ansul A-101 fire Suppression systems:CHECKFIRE Series I, CHECKFIRE SC-N, or theCHECKFIRE MP-N. Mounting location temperatures for the controlmodules for the detection systems are as follows:CHECKFIRE Series I 40 C to +60 C( 40 F to +140 F)CHECKFIRE SC-N 40 C to +60 C( 40 F to +140 F)CHECKFIRE MP-N0 C to +49 C(+32 F to +120 F)CHECKFIRE systems utilize either an electrical,mechanical, or pneumatic principle. Three typesof detector options can be used: A temperature-sensitive linear wire, a spottype heat detector,or a gas filled stainless steel linear wire When fire breaks out, the wire s insulation melts,completing an electrical circuit and causes the detection System to actuate the fire Suppression heat detectors Internal contacts willclose when the temperature of the surroundingair reaches the set point temperature of thedetector.

7 This action completes an electricalcircuit and causes the detection System toactuate the fire Suppression filled stainless steel tubing When the gasin the tubing heats up, the increase in pressureoperates a responder, thus completing an electrical circuit and causes the detection System to actuate the fire Suppression fire Suppression System shall be the drychemical pre-engineered fixed nozzle cartridge-operated type, incorporating automatic detectionwith engine shutdown capabilities. It shall be approved by Factory Mutual ResearchCorporation (FMRC) for the hazards to be protected based on actual fire tests by themanufacturer and confirmed by the nationallyrecognized testing laboratory. The design ofthe System (specific hose sizes, maximum andminimum lengths, hose specifications, numberof fittings, number and type of nozzles, andquantity of dry chemical) shall provide protectionfor the hazard as prescribed by the nationaltesting laboratory.

8 Installation shall be in accor-dance with the approved Design, Installation,Maintenance Manual and conform to NFPAS tandard 17, Dry Chemical ExtinguishingSystem, and NFPA Standard 121, MobileSurface Mining Equipment.
