Medibank Private have announced changes to the level of cover offered by a number of their policies. Hospitals that contract with Medibank Private should have received information about these changes outlining the services that will be excluded from the different Medibank policies. This is not a policy change. From the 1 June members will no longer be covered for the newly listed excluded services unless they were pre-booked by 31 March. - Should a patient/member wish to be treated or remain covered for one of the newly listed excluded service then they must switch to a membership that covers them for the newly excluded service. To ensure they are continuously covered they should switch before 1 June.

4 For patients already on a course of treatment for a newly listed excluded service, they will continue to be covered until 31 December. - Should a patient already be on a course of treatment for a new listed excluded service they will need to switch to a membership that covers them for the newly excluded service. To ensure they are continuously covered they should switch before 1 June. The patient/member can either switch to a different Medibank product that will cover them or they can switch to product offered by a different insurer. It is important to note that under the portability of membership rules the patient/member does not have to serve any additional waiting periods for the services for which they were previously covered. Waiting periods would only be served for services for which they were previously not covered.
