5 1 This section introduces the external Serial Interface Options available for the Advanced ProcessManager or High-Performance Process Manager Array point. Additional information on the Arraypoint can be found in the Advanced Process Manager Control Functions & Algorithms manual orthe High-Performance Process Manager Control Functions & Algorithms OVERVIEWThe Advanced Process Manager (APM) and High-Performance Process Manager (HPM)provide a point type known as the Array point. An Array point provides access to twosources of data APM/HPM box global variables external data from/to Serial Interface devicesIn the first case, an Array point can define a section of the APM or HPM box variables asits own data.

6 This function is described in the Advanced Process Manager ControlFunctions and Algorithms manual and in the High-Performance Process Manager ControlFunctions & Algorithms the second case, when the Array point is configured for external I/O operation, datafrom a Serial Interface (SI) IOP can be scanned, imaged (read), and used as if it were localdata to the Array Serial Interface to external subsystem devices is the focus of this subsystem data is resident in the APM or HPM Array point, it can be used by otherAPM/HPM points.

7 Thus, Serial Interface data represents essentially virtual I/O to theAPM or HPM. Array point data can be accessed by other APM/HPM control points, aswell as by CL programs. Data can be communicated peer-to-peer to other UCN FTA module must have at least one corresponding Array point configured in order toinitiate Serial communications. Data collected through the SI module is available as localdata for use by Digital Composite points, Device Control points, CL programs, etc. Notethat, unlike other IOP types, an SI module has no slots.

8 Array Point Flags and Numerics are fully supported as I/O connections; however, theSerial Interface is primarily intended as an input vehicle and it can efficiently import largequantities of , the Serial Interface IOP firmware runs diagnostic routines. Certified applications* include Modbus Interface (Modicon Modbus-RTU protocol with extensions for real numbersand string support): Modicon 984 programmable logic controller Other Honeywell-approved Modbus compatible devicesAllen-Bradley Interface : Allen-Bradley PLC-2, 3, and 5 programmable logic controllersOther standard applications are being developed.
