4 Introduction This GUIDE is for doctors applying for specialty training posts in psychiatry in England, Scotland and Wales at CT1 level commencing in February 2016. All applications will be managed using an online application system, which can be accessed via the following link: Please note Northern Ireland operates its own application system for recruitment to psychiatry and you can find out more by visiting the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental training Agency website at: All participating LETBs and deaneries use the same eligibility requirements, assessment methods and appointability criteria to ensure the process is fair, transparent and equitable. The process involves: A standardised application and longlisting process and A standardised computer based test, the Specialty Recruitment Assessment and A standardised interview/selection process Please note all eligible applicants will be invited to interview.

5 This GUIDE provides you with the key information you need in order to apply as well as some guidance as to what the interview panels will be looking for. Further information including interview dates and anticipated vacancy numbers will be available via the following link: #timetable. You will find additional advice on the Specialty training website: Changes since the last round of recruitment Since the last round of recruitment, there have been a number of minor changes to the CT1 recruitment process. These are as follows. Application Form We no longer require you to provide details of any of the following when you are completing the application form: Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degrees and Qualifications Prizes, Awards and Distinctions training courses Achievements outside medicine Presentations and Publications Teaching and Audit We have made this change because, without shortlisting, there was no point in the recruitment stage at which this information was reviewed.

6 It therefore seems sensible not to ask for this information at the application stage of the process. You can, of course, include evidence of any of the above in the portfolio you bring to interview. This also means that all eligible applicants will be invited to interview. Interview Scoring We have provided information on the overall scores for all of the interview stations plus scores you need to get in order to be appointable. Please see section for more details. 8 Making an application You are advised to read the following information BEFORE you begin and keep it to hand whilst completing your application. Application Window You must apply between 10am UK time on Wednesday 26th August 2015 and 4pm UK time on Wednesday 9th September 2015 via You can register your details on Oriel before the application window but you will not be able to submit your application until the application window opens. If you submit an application before entering all your details you will need to enter these for each application you submit. If you fill in your details before submitting an application you will be able to use these for applying to multiple specialties. Please refer to the Oriel Applicant GUIDE for further information on how to use the Oriel system. It is likely that you will need several sessions to complete your application.

9 You should aim to submit your application well before the closing date. You will NOT receive any reminder emails to complete your application. You will receive an email to confirm your application has been received. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Application Portal and Registration Process You must apply via To register, please go to and click on Account Registration. You will not be able to access the online application form until the application window opens. You will be asked to provide the following details when you register: Your name this must be entered exactly as it appears on the GMC register A valid email address - Please ensure you register with a secure and individual email address which you check regularly A password at least 8 characters in length & contain at least one upper case letter and one numeric value Please note that the majority of communication with you during the recruitment process will be by email and via your account on the application system.

10 Please choose a secure email address that you can access easily and frequently. Failure to check your email regularly may mean that you do not respond to requests in time, and your application may fail to progress or be rejected as a result. Choosing a LETB or Deanery In this recruitment round you are only able to submit one application to CT1 psychiatry and, if eligible, you will be invited to the centralised interviews held at the Macron Stadium, Bolton. Please note that ahead of the centralised interviews, you will be able to rank all available posts in England, Scotland and Wales in your order of preference and will be considered for all of them.
