1 ASME STANDARD BACKWATER VALVES side by side comparison OF STANDARDS ASME 1975 AND ASME 2003 A new Reference Standards Section was added to the new version. 2 A new Section Performance Requirements was added. This section covers Normally Closed BACKWATER VALVES , Normally Open BACKWATER VALVES , Grade, Access, and Sealing Elements. In Section of the new and in the old, Hubless connections shall no longer conform to CISPI 301 but instead with ASTM A 888. Also added to Section Connections were the requirements for Threaded or Solvent Cement Outlet Connections and O-Ring Joints. In Section in the new and of the old, an additional sentence was inserted stating that, Materials other than those specified in this STANDARD may be used provided such alternative materials, in all other respects, meet the applicable requirements of this STANDARD . In Section , Internal Working Parts shall be of copper alloy in accordance with ASTM A 351 or equally corrosion resisting material instead of Bronze.

3 Casting or moldings shall free of additional imperfections such as fins and flashing or any else affecting casting quality and shall be of uniform thickness. In Section , Cast Iron shall be in accordance with ASTM A 48 with a minimum thickness for the casting of 7/32 in. instead of ASTM A 126. In Section , Copper Alloy Castings shall have a minimum thickness of 5/32 in. Two new Sections and were added with discuss the ABS and PVC requirements.
