Discipleship: Following The Way Of The Lord Jesus Jesus gave His followers the power and the authority to speak and to act in His name. He commanded them to do the works which he did -- to confront the powers of evil, to heal those who are hurting, and to proclaim God s word to all. We, too, are chosen and sent.

7 Our Lord today entrusts us with His gifts and talents. The world and the flesh seek power for selfish gain. But Jesus commands us to use our power and authority, our gifts and talents, for the good of others. He directs us outward: to be a healing presence in our community, to welcome and reach out to others. We are sent forth by Jesus to be about the work of casting out the unclean spirits of arrogance and greed, of lifting up the fallen by extending to them our own walking sticks, of shaking off the dust of bigotry and anger in order to bring hope and healing to our world.

8 Jesus instructs us to travel light. Trust in the power of God in us, not on the boxes of things we accumulate. Clear out the clutter of our lives, the mindless pursuit of wealth, status and power, and focus on the true treasures of God: love, forgiveness, reconciliation, compassion, and joyful generosity. Place yourself at His service, to do whatever He bids you, and witness His truth and saving power. The Lord wants to work through and in each of us for His glory. Are you ready to handle the power and authority which God wishes you to exercise on His behalf?
