RIDER HISTORY: I am from Iowa originally and moved to Ardmore in January 2009 and started working at Jud Little Ranch in Febru-ary. I had actually started my own business as a massage therapist in Iowa and been doing that for 3 years before deciding I wanted to ride for more than 6 months a year. I grew up breakaway roping and I ran barrels and had started team roping as well before I moved to Ardmore. I really thought I would be a massage therapist down here and start a new business, but then the job with Jud came up and the rest is history. When I started at the Jud Little Ranch I was loping open horses for about 6 months.

Then Jolene (Montgomery) asked me to work with her after her helper had left to go to school. When Jolene was going to leave and go on her own, she told me if I wanted to be the trainer she would put in a good word for me with Jud. I didn t know a lot about training but Jolene said we had a year and she would teach me all that she could in that year and then I would just have to get runs and experience. I just really appreciate Jud giving me the chance to do this. I have a lot to learn about the futurity horses but we have good horses and we are working on it.

I appreciate Jolene so much because I learned a ton from her and if it wasn t for her and Jud I wouldn t be where I am now. All my family still lives in Iowa and I am really close to my family so that s hard but it is like a family at the Jud Little Ranch so that is really nice for : Twisted wire gag from Kathy JamesHEADGEAR: NoneSADDLE: Shiloh, that s what Jolene ran him in so we didn t want to change that. PAD: Cutter Classic made by Steve BirdwellLEG GEAR: Classic Equine Legacy & Polos on backGRAIN: Omolene 500 SUPPLEMENTS: Maalox morning and night HAY: Alfalfa and coastal ADDITIONAL HORSE CARE & SHOEING: Nick Meabon shoes him with leather pad just under the shoe itself for support.

Dr Robin Johnson takes good care of him as his veterinarian. TRAINING & RIDING STYLE: I learned from Jolene how to get the colts really broke in the face and throughout their bodies. After the colts are really riding well, then I begin working them on the barrels. Ideally, I don t want to have to do a lot with my hands so on the 3 year olds I like to go in there, check them and let them work around the BARREL and fi nd their feet and the path and style that best fi ts them. I am still learning and still fi nding my style so my training & riding style is a work in progress.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE SETTING AN ARENA RECORD: Before I ran, I saw all those really good horses runnings 1s ( ) and I just thought that my horse (JL Dash Ta Heaven) could run an 0. I knew how great all those other horses were, but after all the things JL Dash Ta Heaven has done I just knew he could do it. He is just so athletic, fast, and strong, he can do a lot of things other horses can t. Then right before I was ready to run Jolene told me, You can do this, don t take no for an answer! She is so good with getting her mind right and it must BBR World Finals Open Continued on Page 3 Nelson & JL Dash Ta Heaven Set RecordDYNA SNOWSI 80JL DASH TA HEAVENSPECIAL EFFORTSI 104 DYNAS PLAIN SPECIALSPECIAL FEELINSSI 932005 SORREL STALLIONFUNNY FEELINSI 84 DOTHAN(TB)IMA VAN S GIRLSI 76 SUDDEN FAMESI 98 DASH FOR CASHSI 114 DASH TA FAMESI 113 FIRST DOWN DASHSI 105 FIRST PRIZE ROSESI 98 TINY S GAYSI 106 BAR DEARIESI 90 RIDER: ASHLEY NELSON; OWNER/BREEDER: JUD LITTLEBARREL RACING REPORT MAY 3, 2011 PAGE 2 Tracy & Dusti Swan West, TX : www.
