Handloom is a precious part of generational legacyand has been kept alive by the skilled weavers engaged in the age old tradition of weaving sinceantiquity in Assam . Contrary to use ofmodern technology and tools in the textile sector inpresent days, the handloom sector continued to play very important role in terms ofemployment generation and the socio-economic development of handloom, theconstraints are shortage of skilledand expert weavers, Lack of capital and credit facilities, Lackof processing and finishing facilities, Weavers concentrate too much on Govt.

8 One of the earliest and most often cited definitions of Livelihoods is that: It comprises thecapabilities,assets(including both material and social) and activities required for a means of issustainablewhen it can cope with and recover from stress and shocks (drought,flood, war, etc.), maintain or enhance its capabilities and assets, while not undermining thenatural resource a group of people who access similar resources, share similar social andcultural values andhave a comparable economic status.
