Some general remarks about BIM - Docia is BIM Docia A/S was founded in 1997 by a group of individuals from the AEC market sector with many years of experience in the design and construction of buildings. We regard ourselves as a company with a European domestic market. However, by virtue of our web solutions, we recognise that our market is a global one.
BIM is a global trend and we are experiencing the same challenges in the United States, Europe, and Asia etc. as those on the Danish agenda. In recent years huge amounts of time and resources have been used on BIM. It became apparent to Docia that we should be aware how the industry will change in its efforts to support BIM, even before it is adopted a standard. Today, there is a growing need to understand and support BIM and Cobie. Therefore, both Docia and the industry as a whole have to take many different issues into account. Several reports have focused on this too.
Many of the issues are the same as those identified in reports such as the Lathan report ( ) or the Egan report ( ). Both focus strongly on collaboration in the AEC sector, comparing it to the supply chain theory in the car industry. The creation of successful project teams requires the capacity to work across organisations and professions. BIM requires more equal-footed, inter-organisational collaboration than any current internal process-management tools can handle. They do not have the capacity to deal with processes, information and tasks, which cut across the various organisations involved in the creation of a building.
So, if one disregards collaboration, BIM is just an isolated nucleus, which does not yield its full value for the entire project team. Docia was founded on the concept of generating a better flow of information, not only for the company, but also across professions, organisations and project teams. Over the years we have proved that our Docia Project tool can save time for every member of the project team. It has created far greater certainty about the validity of information, while guaranteeing that the right party receives the correct information, as soon it is available.
Our Customers tell us that it reduces errors and saves them both time and money. The possession of a PC and an internet connection are all it takes to make this possible. No weighty, expensive implementation is called for, nor special hardware, which must be maintained, essentially making the investment a "no-brainer" for the entire project team. Docia A/S, Ryesgade 19C, 2200 Copenhagen N, Denmark, tel.: +45 35 245 250, fax: +45 35 245 255, Today Docia are the market leading provider of professional extranet solutions. We have a unified platform with many applications, which support and create value for the project team throughout the duration of a project.
Today our applications include tools for the implementation of all types of tender, mobile photo registration, mobile defect and deficiency audits, supervision, KS, digital delivery and facilities management etc. This makes Docia the partner of choice for the AEC market sector. All our solutions guarantee our customers value in the form of savings, less risk or higher efficiency. Our background also reflects the increasing focus on digital resources in the industry. It is precisely on this basis that BIM and the focus on it are steadily increasing. Countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom have used government resources to develop a standard, which benefits every member of a team, at every stage from design to realisation.
Americans talk about BIM, BAM and BOOM (Building Information Model, Building Assembly Model and Building Operation Optimization Model). For more info: Read more about the number of initiatives supported by the United Kingdom etc.: BIM, 4D and 5D, BAM and BOOM. But whatever one calls it, it does not alter the fact that the different professions and project teams involved need to be able to collaborate and share project material in a clever way, and ensure that the form of the material can be applied. It is hard to believe that the industry is already capable of realising a construction project simply according to a 3D model.
For more general information about BIM: Docia is here to support both the industry and BIM. Our solution guarantees that cross-organisational sharing of information is conducted in a targeted and quality-assured way. This also applies to project material, such as models, and the information and material, which are exported from models. If the value of models lies in the information they contain, it is essential to distribute this information to the relevant recipients. That is precisely how Docia help our users. It is an essential element, if BIM is to create value.
Meanwhile, we are also working on: how to solve the challenges presented by cross-organisational work with models; finding a model, which reduces clash; minimising the amount of data to be moved, when working with models; and creating a new generation of extranet, which is still at the forefront of the industry s needs, and creates value for every member of a team. We will offer state-of-the-art, collaborative BIM! Docia A/S, Ryesgade 19C, 2200 Copenhagen N, Denmark, tel.: +45 35 245 250, fax: +45 35 245 255, At Docia our market is the biggest decisive factor in everything we do.
We want to help you work with BIM, and you are invited to contact us, so that together we can lead BIM forward. The emergence of BIM The term BIM is relatively new, and in recent years it has become a strong, highly popular concept. Depending on how you define BIM, its origin can be traced back to the 1980s and systems such as ArchiCAD 3D, which could accommodate various parameters in 3D models. Technology and the increasing level of information, together with the spread of 3D visualisation, have created the context for a popular interpretation of the term "BIM", on the basis of previous concepts like 3D modelling, Virtual Building etc.
