2 Arnold G. Fisch, colonel Charles Bussey was born in 1921 inBakersfield, California. He studied engineering at LosAngeles City College, and in 1941 volunteered for Army. He completed pilot training at the TuskegeeArmy Flying School and flew with the 332d FighterGroup in Italy. colonel Bussey later attended the Uni-versity of Southern California and San Francisco StateUniversity, completing his bachelor s degree. In August1948 he returned to active duty with the 74th EngineerBattalion, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. In 1950 he was re-assigned to the Army of Occupation in Japan, serv-ing first with the 538th Engineer Service Battalion, be-fore assuming command of the 77th Engineer CombatCompany. The 77th Engineer Combat Company trans-ferred to Pusan, Korea, in July 1950.
