1 Phoebe Wong 4D (30) Book Report--A Christmas Carol charles dickens was born in 1812. He was thirty-one years old and already a very successful novelist when A Christmas Carol first appeared in 1843. By that time he had already written the Pickwick Papers and the novels Oliver Twist, Nicholas Nickleby and The Old Curiosity Shop, but it had not been easy for dickens to become the best-selling writer in English in his time. After this book was printed and ready to be sold in time for Christmas 1843, he had a short Christmas holiday and enjoyed himself like Scrooge at Fred s party in the last chapter of the book.

2 The book was a great success. By Christmas Eve the bookshops had sold six thousand copies, and orders were coming in from all part of the country. The story is about Scrooge on Christmas Eve. He always sat in his counting-house, friendlessly and alone. He was not generous with his money. The coldness inside him froze his old face. He carried the coldness with him always, wherever he went. It made his office cold in the summer, and it was even colder in winter. He spent his life in a cold nature. However, these were all changed after he had met the four ghosts-Marley, Ghost of Christmas Past, Present and Yet.

3 They showed him the error of his ways. He looked regretful when he came to and learned what he had done. He felt sorry and would make good everybody s less. Then by the time Christmas Day dawn, he was ready to enjoy it! He was humane, tolerant, tender and warm. Scrooge impresses me. He was very generous to share his own belongings with others. Do you think this is a good change for Scrooge? I think this story is perfectly written. We can learn a lot from it especially from Scrooge. Every ghost taught him a lesson, which let him know the terrible death of himself in the future. If he continued his life in that wrong way, he would be alone and no one would feel regretful for his death.

4 This is the part which interested me the most. Also, from the ending I learn how to share happiness and sorrow with others. To be warm and kind, to care about the poor and the feeble, to be broad-minded and not to be selfish are what I have learnt. Scrooge really impressed me, his special adventures and his changes were so unexpected. It is hard to believe a man who was cold and humorless before would change into a warm-hearted man. Not only Scrooge impresses me, but the story itself impresses me too.
