It is importantthat you read, fully under-stand and observe the follow-ing safety precautions and warnings. Reread the owner s manualand the safety instructions periodically.

6 Xh v t Careless or improper use of the ma-chine may cause serious injury. Haveyour STIHL Dealer show you how to operate your blower. Observe all applica-ble local safety regulations, standardsand ordinances. Xh v t Minors should never be allowed to use ablower : Bystanders, especially children,and animals should not be allowed in thearea where a machine is in let the unit run not lend or rent your machine withoutthe owner s manual. 7 Different models may have different parts and controls. See the appropriate section of your owner s manual for a description of the controlsand function of the parts of your r s h iy r v y r 1. the blower use of the blower .UC@ PQ@S6 UPSQu vphy 8 qv v You must be in good physical conditionand mental health and not under the influence of any substance (drugs, alcohol, etc.) which might impair vision, dexterity or judgment. Do not operate ablower when you are fatigued .Be alert - if you get tired while operatingyour machine, take a break. Tiredness may result in loss of control.

8 Workingwith any blower can be strenuous. If you have any condition that might be aggravated by strenuous work, checkwith your doctor before operating the machine. Xh v t Prolonged use of a blower, (or other machines) exposing the operator to vibrations may produce whitefinger disease (Raynaud s phenomenon) or carpal tunnel syndrome. These con-ditions reduce the hand s ability to feel and regulate temperature, producenumbness and burning sensations and may cause nerve and circulation damage and tissue necrosis. Xh v t The STIHL br 320 , 400 is equippedwith an antivibration system (AV).

9 TheAV system is designed to reduce the transmission of engine vibrations to theoperator s hands. An AV system is recommended for those operators whouse blowers on a regular or systems do not guaranteethat you will not sustain whitefinger disease or carpal tunnel syndrome. Therefore, continual and regular usersshould monitor closely the condition oftheir hands and fingers. If any of the above symptoms appear, seek medicaladvice r 8y uv t Clothing must be sturdy and snug-fitting,but allow complete freedom of move-ment. Avoid loose-fitting jackets, flaredor cuffed pants, scarfs, unconfined longhair or anything that could be drawn intothe air intake.

10 Wear overalls or longpants to protect your not wear shorts. Use of gloves when working with the bloweris recommended. Good footing is most important. Wearsturdy shoes with nonslip Q rph v #7S "! # Xh v t To reduce the risk of injury associatedwith the inhalation of dust, use a face filter mask when using your blower in dusty conditions. Xh v t Proper eye protection is a must. Eventhough the discharge is directed awayfrom the operator, ricochets and bounce-backs can occur during operate a blower unless wearing goggles orproperly fitted safety glasseswith adequate top and sideprotection which comply withANSI Z (or your appli-cable national standard).
