2 Cost to recertify by continuing education credits within 12 months of expiration date is $300. Payment for electronic submission is by credit card only. Payment for mail submission is by check only. A return payment will put the AE-C credential into expired status until payment is made. A $25 fee will be applied (in addition to any other bank fees incurred). Recerti cation after the expiration date will be by examination cation demonstrates that professionals previously certi ed have maintained a level of contemporary know-ledge in asthma education .

3 The NAECB requires that all AE-C s recertify every 7 years by examination or every 5yyears by continuing education units to maintain certi cation status. Recerti cation by CEUs is valid for 5 years andthe credential will expire if it is not renewed after ve years. It is the responsibility of each AE-C to stay abreast ofchanges in certi cation and recerti cation requirements and to recertify in a timely manner, as de ned above. Validdates of the credential should be monitored and application for recerti cation submitted by published deadlines.

4 Areminder will be mailed/emailed one year before recerti cation by CEU would expire. It is the responsibility of eachAEAE-C to keep mail and email addresses up-to-date. Updated information should be submitted to NAECB using theUpdate Form found on our website ( ). Extensions of certi cation are not InformationRecerti cation by continuing education requires that the AE-C meets eligibility requirements and completes 35clock hours of continuing education (within 5 years of expiration of credential) in content areas applicable to asthmaeducation (see the detailed content outline in the examination handbook)

6 Will want todemonstrate through recerti cation that their knowledge and skills are up-to-date and that they are able to practicepro ciently and safely. It is hoped that all AE-C s who select recerti cation by continuing education will engage in apersonal assessment to identify professional needs and participate in appropriate education : Must be approved by a provider on the NAECB List of Recognized Providers (see Addendum A). Must be applicable to asthma. All subject matter on the Detailed Content Outline (DCO) published in the Candidate Handbook that is current at the time of application for recerti cation is considered applicable to asthma.

7 Must be completed between the initial date of certi cation, or date of subsequent recerti cation, and the expiration date, ve years later. Must be at a professional level that enhances the quality and effectiveness of asthma self-management education practice. Does not have to be discipline speci c nor does it have to come from any speci c area of concentration, , social workers may attend an asthma-related nursing program and use those clock hours for recerti acceptable for recerti cation by continuing education .

The course title should provide an indication of the content of thecourse. A brief description of content (or course outline, syllabus, or brochure) should be attached when the course title does notprovide any indication of course education Hours (Clock Hours)All continuing education activities must be reported in clock hours, , the actual time spent on the continuingeduceducation activity, not contact hours, credits, or units awarded by the recognized provider.

10 One clock hour equals60 minutes. The clock hours submitted cannot be more than the number of contact hours/credits/units awarded bythe recognized may include in the time to be counted as clock hours the course overview, introductions, educationalpresentation, and question and answers. Time may not be counted for general announcements, breaks, lunch, exhibits,or poster study programs (on-line or written booklets)Participants may count the actual time spent on completing the activity. Clock hours submitted cannot be more thanthe number of contact hours/credits/units awarded by the recognized Requirements1) A currently licensed or credentialed health care professional in one of the following professions:Physician (MD, DO), Physician Assistant (PA-C), Nurse (RN, LPN, NP), Respiratory Therapist (RRT, CRT), Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT , RPFT), Pharmacist (RPh), Social Worker (CS W), Health Educator (CHES ), Physical Therapist (PT), Occupational Therapist (OT).
