Brevard County Public Schools school Improvement Plan 2011-2012 Name of school BVIPArea NorthPrincipal Heather Price, Assistant PrincipalArea Superintendent Dr. Ronald BobaySAC Chairperson Superintendent Dr. Brian Binggeli Judith MottlVISION Virtual Learning - Education Beyond Boundaries MISSION To provide students high quality, rigorous Virtual instruction based on a foundation of positive, productive relationships betstudent, family and school . Brevard County Public Schools school Improvement Plan 2011-2012 SECTION I school Wide Improvement Model Describe the evidence based school Improvement Model at your school .

How is this model being implemented, and how has it helped with student achievement? The Virtual instruction programs consist of three, full-time programs: Brevard Virtual Instruction Program (BVIP), Brevard Virtual Secondary school (BVSS), and Brevard Virtual Elementary school (BVES). All programs meet the state mandate for a Virtual Instruction Program (s. , ). BVIP operates with contracted services from K12 Florida. BVSS operates as a franchise of the Florida Virtual school . BVES is a district-operated Virtual instruction program utilizing Calvert Education Services curriculum. As a contracted service, BVIP teachers are employed by the vendor.

Teacher training, professional development and supervision are handled through the contracted services provider, K12 Florida. BVSS and BVES are both in the first year of operation. BVSS teachers are adjuncts, each teaching the equivalent of one section of students who are either full-time students or part-time students. BVES is a full-time only program with one full-time BPS teacher. The school Advisory Council will serve all three Schools and utilize the International Association for K 12 Online Learning (iNACOL) National Standards for Quality Online Programs. The standards establish quality guidelines for program leadership, instruction, content, support services, and evaluation.

In the first year of operation of BVES and BVSS and given the contractual nature of BVIP, the focus for the 2011 2012 school year will be the quality standards for leadership and support services. The SAC will conduct a self evaluation and establish action steps to improve services. Extended Learning Opportunities Describe the programs that are provided before and after school , during the summer, and during the extended school year. Academic Support Program Reading/Mathematics How is your ASP program addressing students in priority groups? 1. Level 1 on FCAT (3rd grade is first priority) 2. Lowest 25% in Reading 3.

K-6 students demonstrating deficiencies in reading or mathematics When are services being provided for reading/mathematics ASP? Who will be providing instruction? How will instruction be delivered? What materials will be used for ASP instruction? Science How is your ASP addressing students who scored below 300 on Science FCAT or current 5th grade students in need of support? When are services being provided for science ASP? Who will be providing instruction? How will instruction be delivered? What materials will be used for ASP instruction? Before and After school Care Do students have opportunities to participate in learning activities (free or fee-based) before or after school ?

Enrichment Opportunities Do students have opportunities to participate in clubs? Do students have opportunities to participate in SES or SOAR? What other learning opportunities are available outside of the regular school curriculum? Due to the Virtual nature of our programs, before and after school care and learning opportunities, as well as ASP and SES, do not apply to our students. The Virtual instruction programs do not receive ASP funding. The nature of the Virtual program allows for remediation at the time of need. Teachers reteach content based on student mastery of standards and the teachers employ a variety of instructional methods and tools to address the needs of the individual student.

Students are provided opportunities for academic and social enrichment through the regular Virtual program, through face-to-face activities, through the zoned brick and mortar school , and through field trips, both Virtual and in person. Students who are in need of FCAT remediation or who have failed a basic academic course are eligible for the district SOAR program at the student's zoned school . Reading Intervention Plan & Literacy Leadership Team (LLT) All components of the K-12 Reading Plan and statutory requirements for reading intervention will be followed. These components and approved instructional and intervention materials can be found at Brevard County Public Schools school Improvement Plan 2011-2012 SECTION II Highly Qualified Instructional Coaches List your school 's highly qualified instructional coaches and briefly describe their certification(s), number of years at the current school , number of years as an instructional coach, and their prior performance record with increasing student achievement at each school .

Instructional coaches described in this section are only those who are fully released or part-time teachers in reading, mathematics, or science and work only at the school site. Subject Area Name Degree(s)/ Certification(s) # of Years at Current school # of Years as an Instructional Coach Prior Performance Record (include prior school Grades, Lowest 25%), and AYP information along with the associated school year) N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A Response to Instruction/Intervention (RtI) school -based RtI Team Identify the school -based RtI Leadership Team.

Due to the contracted services model of BVIP, and that students work from their own homes, RtI, when necessary for an individual student or for tier 1 or 2 instruction issue is conducted in conjunction with the zoned school . The RtI leadership team for BVES and BVSS will consist of: Assistant Principal Guidance Counselor Teacher (General Education and ESE) Describe how the school -based RtI Leadership Team functions ( meeting processes and roles/functions). How does it work with other school teams to organize/coordinate RtI efforts? The RtI leadership team meets at least once per month, additional meetings are held if needs arise.

In some instances, the team will work with the RtI leadership teams of the brick and mortar Schools . Describe the role of the school -based RtI Leadership Team in the development and implementation of the school improvement plan. Describe how the RtI Problem Solving process is used in developing and implementing the SIP? The small nature of the Virtual instruction programs, means that the RtI team is the leadership team in the school for implementation of the school Improvement Plan. RtI Implementation Describe the data sources(s) and the data management system(s) used to summarize data at each tier for reading, mathematics, science, writing, and behavior When intervention is necessary for a student or group of students, we utilize FAIR, FCAT, Scantron assessments for BVIP, check points and ATS tests for BVES and pre test and module assessments for BVSS.
