1 1 BRICKHILL news The newsletter of BRICKHILL Parish Council Issue 37 May 2014 Woodlands park Improvements On 1st April 2015, Woodlands park officially becomes part of BRICKHILL Parish. For the past two years, Ravensden Parish increased its council tax precept, in anticipation of Woodlands park leaving that parish. Ravensden Parish Council calculate that they have collected 20, which they will hold in reserve and transfer to BRICKHILL Parish on 1st April 2015.

2 BRICKHILL Parish Council is now consulting to find out what suggestions residents have for the use of this money. Cllr Mark Fitzpatrick, Chair of BRICKHILL Parish Council, said: This is a one-off amount and needs to be spent with great care. I hope Woodlands park residents will send in their suggestions for the use of this money . Once the ideas are received, there will be a further consultation with residents to give their preferences on the ideas submitted. The following are just some suggestions for how the money could be used: improvements to play areas, benches in the country park , funding a parent and baby group, more notice boards, a contribution towards tackling highway problems on the estate (such as the narrow section of Ashmead Road), providing more bins, putting on a community event in the Country park .

Please return to the Clerk by 21st June Woodlands park suggestions - - - - - news from BRICKHILL Parish Council BRICKHILL Parish Council has put up 8 bird nestboxes on Waveney Green and is looking into providing boxes for bats.

4 This is part of plans to make the area more attractive to wildlife. At the Annual Meeting, Cllr Mark Fitzpatrick was re-elected as Chair of the Parish Council, with Cllr Ray Waterhouse re-elected as Vice-Chair. Mark Fitzpatrick said The next year is going to be a busy one a big part of that will be the consultation with residents regarding the sum being transferred from Ravensden Parish Council for the benefit of Woodlands park residents, as well as the existing projects such as improvements to Waveney Green and BRICKHILL Community Centre.

5 During the Easter holidays 50 children from BRICKHILL joined in activity sessions delivered by Sport Support Group on behalf of BRICKHILL Parish Council. The first session was Multi Sports where the children enjoyed a range of activities including rounders, kwik cricket and dodgeball. During the second session the children took part in a Wild Survival challenge. This involved making dens and camp fires and working together as a team to build the best camp! Our thanks to Scott Lower School who allowed free use of their facilities and access into park Wood Nature Reserve via the school grounds.

6 The activities have proved very popular but don t just take our word for it parents like the activities too Hi BRICKHILL Parish Council, just wanted to let you know that Sam loved the Wild Survival. He was buzzing about it and really wants to do it again! It was clearly brilliant and amazing value. A big thank you from the Whitney's. The activities are part funded by BRICKHILL Parish Council and 3 more sessions are planned for the Summer Holidays. More details on these activities will be published on the parish council website and noticeboards nearer the time.
