CLEAN UP 5-10 Minutes CLOSING 5 Minutes Refer to Brownie girl scout Leaders Guide, pg 23 OCTOBER (4 Weeks) Greet the girls and have them make name tags As the girls arrive, have the color and decorate a grocery bag, which will be used to hold their jackets, etc. when they come into the meetings. The leaders keep bags. Be sure their names are on their bag. Girls can use this time to get their group together and work on an opening and closing ceremony. Girls can use this time to quietly work on any activity in their handbook or Try-Its Book.

3 Pledge of Allegiance The Promise and Law. This may need to be taught, especially to new girls. Teach the Brownie Smile Song, BGSB, pg 15 Take attendance and collect dues. Discuss Troop Business and Brainstorm with girls on upcoming events and troop activities. Look at planning a party for Juliette Low s birthday (October 31) Presents could be items for the troop first aid box or supplies for the troop craft/supply box. Investiture and Rededication Make Name Tags and Kaper Chart Tags Conduct a Parent Meeting Read the Original Brownie Story, pg 29 BGSH And/or Read the modern Brownie Tale, pg 33 BGSH Discuss with the girls why the joined girl Scouts.

4 Work on The girl scout Law and helping the girls understand the Law and Promise, BGSH, pg 14 Learn the girl scout Sign /Handshake/Quiet Sign, BGSH, pg 18 Complete girl scout Ways Try It (TIBGS, pg 14) Help the girls design their Investiture Ceremony. BGSH, pg 22 Create invitations for the ceremony. Hold your Investiture/Rededication Ceremony at a troop meeting. Include refreshments and a special closing for family members. Kaper Chart Typical Kaper Charts have the following duties listed. Girls should rotate throughout the year and be given each duty at least once.

5 You may add additional duties or split up duties among girls. Attendance/Dues Snacks for Mtg. Opening Leader Clean Up Closing Leader Troop Business Facilitator Friendship Circle Have the girls form a circle. Cross your right hand over your left and hold hands. Friendship Squeeze While in the Friendship Circle, ask each girl to send a positive thought or wish out to the world silently. Give them about 1 minute. Once they have done that, Your Closing Leader will start the Friendship Squeeze around the circle. It can go left to right or vice versa.

6 Once it returns to the originator, your Closing Leader will say Good night/afternoon girl Scouts and everyone will lift their hands over their head and turn out of the circle.
