It resembles theAR-15/M16 pattern extractor. The bolt features twinlocking lugs and results in a 90-degree lift. The boltbody is fluted to reduce friction and is generouslyvented to divert gases down into the magazine andaway from the shooter in the unlikely event of a rup-tured case.
5 The bolt sleeve cap likewise offers protec-tion from gases. The firing pin is a one-piece designand is easily removed for cleaning without tools. Thebolt stop is constructed of a minimum of materials butis nonetheless strong. The bolt handle is gracefullyswept back, while the knob is receiver is flattened on each side just below theround top, giving it a unique look, but also serves toreduce weight. The action is secured to the stock viatwo guard screws with Torx heads, and the floorplateis hinged. The trigger guard and floorplate are con-structed of alloy, at least on the Patriot model 48 variants are offered with two- and three-position safeties, with the Patriotmodel having the two-position type thatallows the bolt tobe opened whenit is in the ONposition.
