As we work together towards another great year, I keep looking back in the archives to see what was going on during our first year: In May 1968, the Tampa Tribune tells us that General Eisenhower was recovering from his 4th heart attack; Dr. Evelyn Bruton s home in Winter Haven was partially swallowed by a sinkhole; 1400 high school students in Ohio were suspended for participating in sit-ins to protest disciplinary actions taken against fellow stu-dents; Kane s Furniture was offering a 5 piece dinette set for $ Some things have changed drastically, others not so much. After serving our country in the United States Navy for 22 years, he continued his service through his volunteerism in the Elks. He has been an officer at other lodges, and has been at our lodge for the past year, working in the kitchen on many occa-sions. He is a strong supporter of our lodge and is always ready to lend a hand. Thankfully, he has demitted to our lodge and we can now claim him as our own. 8 May is here and the ladies are busy with the Mother s Day Raffle. Diane s basket is beautiful but that is no surprise she always does a great job. Grace is busy selling tickets and we know it will realize a good profit. The basket will be raffled off at the BLOE Sunday Breakfast, May 13th and following tradition the ladies with be served break-fast by the BPOE. Mothers will eat for price at the breakfast so may sure you get there early. This is a great way to start the day and treat your mother, grandmother, mother-in-law or mother- to- be. Our Wednesday Night Dinner, May 18th will be a Bran-don Elk s favorite Taco Salad or Sausage Grinders with fries topped off with Judy DeMask s world famous peanut butter pie. You don t want to miss this meal it s the best. Judy and her crew work hard to make it a fun evening with good food and plenty of smiles. Our new officers and committee chairpersons took the ball rolling and are coming up with great new ideas and fun events to be presented throughout our 50th year.

9 May sure you check back to see what we have planned. Thanks to all the ladies that helped at our April catering. Mary Lou Schreck prepared a great buffet and the guests enjoyed the variety of special dishes. We have another catering the end of May and I know Jean Barfield will handle everything like a pro. Our next meeting will be on Monday, May 7th, we will have a board meeting at 6:30 pm so please come early also a reminder to bring a little something for our Father s Day Basket Raffle. So far, I am enjoying my second term and I am very proud to be a part of such a great group of ladies and es-pecially enjoy wearing my beautiful new pearls. Ebert APRIL LADY OF DISTINCTION The Lady of Distinction for April has been an active member of the BLOE for many years.

10 She was asked to step up last year and she agreed without hesitation. She worked hard all year and still found time to help with the fashion show and the anniversary dinner. She has many talents has turned one of them into a profitable part time business. She can be seen at cater-ings quietly helping without any fan-fare. She is an active member of the Florida Ladies of Elks and has served as their president. Please help me in congratulating Beverly Messerschmidt To say that I am still overwhelmed by being honored as "Lady of the Year" for this organization is an understate-ment! This is a very humbling experience for me. My congratulations to the remaining 11 ladies on the list which were honored throughout our 2017- 2018 year. I joined this lodge 8 years ago because of what they stand for and to join the ladies organization to help out.
