Assignments and Reassignments Within the Ready Reserve. Member Qualifications. Members must qualify for positions by grade and Air FORCE specialtycode (AFSC) or meet the retraining requirements for the AFSC of the position for which they areapplying. Officers requesting exemption must tender their resignation and airmen with an approvedexemption will be discharged according to AFI 36-3209, Separation and Retirement Procedures forAir National Guard and Air FORCE Reserve Members.

8 Commanders, recruiters and individual mobilization augmentee (IMA) and participating Indi-vidual Ready Reserve (PIRR) program managers (PMs). PMs are responsible for personnel, manpower, and programming issues relating toassigned IMAs and PIRR. ARPC/DPRFS (Senior Officer and Specials Programs Support Branch) provides central-ized administrative management for IMAs assigned to Air FORCE Elements except Joint Chiefs ofStaff and Office of the Secretary of Defense. Commanders, Recruiters, and PMs must: Actively support the recruitment of qualified members without regard to race, sex,creed, or ethnicity. Review their decisions from a quality FORCE standpoint. Reassignments due to deac-tivation, relocation, or manpower authorization changes of unit and IMA positions may bevoluntary or involuntary, in an appropriate AFSC or with retraining. Make every effort to reassign qualified overage members to a vacant position.

9 Reassign members to ARPC if they cannot locate a vacant position per Chapter 4of this AFI. Consider Total Active Federal Military Service, the applicant's place of residence,future plans, and possible conflicts with civilian occupation before approving an assignment orreassignment. An applicant s place of residence should be within 100 miles or 3 hoursone-way driving time from their training site. However, PMs, commanders, or designated rep-resentatives may approve assignments of members who do not reside within 100 miles or 3hours driving time from the training site by indicating this on the AF IMT 1288, Applicationfor Ready Reserve Assignment. Air FORCE Reserve recruiters. Recruiters may fill projected vacancies 12 months inadvance in grades of lieutenant colonel and below (see Table ). Reserve recruiters are respon-sible for qualifying and processing to include the initiation of necessary assignment waivers and6 AFI36-2115 8 APRIL 2005physical requirements, and all non-pay members requesting a position in the Selected Reserve(SelRes) or the individual professional education and stipend programs.

10 This includes: Assignments from the ANG to the USAFR SelRes, or: Assignments from a non-pay USAFR program to the USAFR SelRes, or: Assignments from a non-participating USAFR status to the USAFR SelRes, or: Members separating from active duty (AD) to an USAFR SelRes assignment (PAL-ACE FRONT, PALACE CHASE, etc.) with the exception of members already on extendedactive duty (EAD) in the SelRes/Active Guard Reserve (AGR) full-time support program, or: Prior service enlistments and accessions to a points-only program outside the Con-tinental United States (CONUS). Officer Promotions/Assignments. Members promoted to grades above major are required toserve satisfactorily in the SelRes or PIRR status (Title 10 , Section 101) in that grade for aperiod of not less than 3 consecutive years in ORDER to retire at that higher grade, unless: The member has served satisfactorily a minimum of 6 months in the grade of lieutenantcolonel or above and is involuntarily separated for maximum age or length of service; they mayretire at that higher grade or be reassigned to the Inactive Status List Reserve Section (ISLRS).
