2 51534 Dress Code It is the belief of the SWIHMB Administrative Board and Section Directors that appropriate dress helps project a positive image of the band. Therefore, we well the following guidelines are in order: The SWIHMB lanyard and ID badge must be worn at all times on the SWIHMB trip No clothing advertising tobacco, illegal drugs or alcohol, or using sexual innuendo will be allowed Be discreet in selection of clothing - no halter tops, torn shirts, torn pants, etc. will be allowed by either girls or boys Casual clothes may be worn en route and during rehearsals or as the director dictates The SWIHMB uniform is each individual school s marching band uniform, and should be worn at major performances The alternate SWIHMB uniform includes the SWIHMB T-Shirt, khaki shorts and mostly white comfortable shoes - this alternate uniform will be used at the Head DIrector s discretion Discipline Policy, Procedures and Due Process The following rules will apply to students in any SWIHMB activity or function.

3 There will be absolutely no tobacco, alcohol or illegal drugs allowed No abuse of property by participants will be tolerated All local, state, and federal laws must be followed Students will be expected to obey all reasonable requests from directors, board members, and chaperones Knowledge of all schedules for rehearsals, departure times, and evening curfews is the responsibility of each student Each student will be responsible for their own instrument, uniform, music, and any other equipment needed for participation Students will be expected to demonstrate the highest standards in dress, language, and courtesy to hosts and chaperones: Dress code should be followed at all times No profanity or abusive language will be tolerated At the discretion of the Administrative Board, any student found to be in violation of the above rules may be placed on in-house suspension; confined to the hotel; not allowed to participate in certain activities; or sent home at the parent s expense on the next available flight.

4 In situations that warrant a student to be sent home, the student s parents or guardians will be financially responsible for the cost of the flight of the student, as well as the SWIHMB chaperone who accompanies them home. The SWIHMB represents the finest students from Southwest Iowa. Common sense and compliance with the rules should make it unnecessary for students to be disciplined. However, if a student should be found in violation of disciplinary policies established in the SWIHMB Handbook, the disciplinary incident will be handled in the following manner: incident will be reported to any adult chaperone accompanying the group chaperone will report the incident to the Assistant Director, Head Director, or Head Administrator.

5 Committee of four adults (Head Administrator, Head Director, Assistant Director, and the chaperone reporting the incident) will be convened for a disciplinary hearing. If one of the four designated adults are not available, another member of the Administrative Board can be selected to replace them. committee will meet with the student or students involved and ask for an explanation of the disciplinary problem. The student or students will be given full due process procedures allowing all parties involved to give their explanation of the incident. hearing from all parties involved, the four adults will determine what disciplinary action is necessary.

6 The disciplinary problem is considered major, the parents or guardians will be contacted disciplinary actions include (but are not limited to): reprimand strict curfew hours of independence at activities chaperone involvement in activities suspension or confinement for any or all activities for a set period of time from the group and sent home the student or students involved are to be sent home, arrangements will be made with the parents or guardians. The students found in violation of the rules will be placed on in-house suspension and confined to their hotel room until further arrangements can be made to send the student home. An adult chaperone will also accompany the student on the return flight.

7 The parents or guardians will be responsible for the cost of the student and the chaperone s return flight. No refunds will be made for any student being sent home under disciplinary action.
