Properly lubricated, they can operate at high speeds thanks to the uniquecage, which guides the rollers precisely. The controlled contour rollers in cage and Roller Assemblies have an optimumprofile, which reduces end stress, allows operation under moderate misalignment and prolongs bearing Design and TypesThe most common cage used in cage and rollerassemblies is the M type. M-type cages are either pressedfrom steel plate or cages undergo surface hardening after processingto attain high wear-resistance and rigidity. The cagesfacilitate optimum lubricating conditions because lubricantcan be easily cages include those made by precision pressing, welded cages, and polyamide molded cages produced by welding pressed steel areespecially suited for mass production. Applying itsconsiderable experience and knowledge, NSK supplies cage and Roller Assemblies of the highest for the various types of cage and Roller Assemblies areshown in Table 1.

There are many types of cage and rollerassemblies other than those in Table 1, including split 1 cage and Roller Assembly Codes2. Specification NumberAn example of a bearing specification number is as follows:Inscribed circle diameter (mm)CodeCircumscribed circle diameter (mm)Width (mm)Example:-FWF202620 For inch bearings, each dimension is expressed with two-digit whole numbers in units of 1/16 of an inch following the Accuracy StandardNSK cage and Roller Assemblies usually use rollers classified as JIS Class 3 or higher. Roller accuracy is shown in Table 5112h1330 : mTable 2 Accuracy of Needle Rollers360 3 Tolerance of Deviation in LengthUnits: mmCage TypeExampleSingle RowDouble RowM CageFBN CageWelded CagePolyamide CageM CageFBN CageWelded CagePolyamide CageFWJ, FWFFBNFWJC, FWJWFWJEFBNPFWF WFBN WFDJC, FDJSFBNP WWJ CodeMetricInchClassTolerance in Average Value ofDiameterhighlowVDWPmaxRmaxVDWLmaxLWSD iameter Variation in aSingle Radial Plane, (1)Deviation fromCircular Form, (1)Diameter Variationwithin Gauge Lot, (1)Deviation in Length, (2)Note (1)Applies at the center of Roller s length.

Applications to Maximize Performance MountingIn cage and Roller Assemblies , the shaft and housing are generally used as raceway rings. It is important to satisfy the finishaccuracy and hardness requirements in Table 4. Accuracy and roughness of the raceway surfaceThe shaft and housing bore of cage and Roller assembliesare often used as raceway surfaces of Needle bearings inorder to achieve the most compact bearing design andenhance shaft rigidity, load capacity, and and roughness of the raceway surface greatlyaffect the life, noise, and accuracy of bearings.

Therefore, shape, accuracy, and roughness have to be treated withgreat care. In particular, harmful circumferential waviness and apolygonal shape are undesirable. Accuracy and roughnessfor raceway surfaces are shown in Table 4. Since thesevalues may change depending on the desiredperformance, please contact NSK. Material and heat treatment of raceway furnaceThe raceway rings and rollers of Needle bearings arerepeatedly stressed on their relatively small contactsurfaces. The materials for raceway rings, rollers, andshafts and housings that function as raceways, musttherefore have high hardness, resistance to permanentdeformation, and long rolling fatigue life. These materialsare also required to be resistant to wear and shock, andhave good dimensional stabilization. Common materialsused for shafts and housings that function as bearingraceways include the following:The hardened layer, which is tempered at a temperaturebetween 160 C and 180 C after hardening, has to developa martensite structure with an even distribution of very finecarbides.

In the case of cemented or induction hardeningof the raceway surface, the surface hardness should notonly be HRC58 to 64 (HRC60 to 64 is preferable), but also, the hardened layers with Vickers hardness of HV 653(HRC58) and HV550 ( ) have to reach appropriatedepths. When the values of hardness are below thesevalues, bearing fatigue life significantly decreases. Thehardened layer depth (up to HV550) after grinding finish isestimated by using the following equation:t ( ~ ) Dwwhere,t:Effective hardened layer depth (mm)Dw: Roller diameter (mm)Core hardness is generally HRC30 to 4 Accuracy and Hardness for Shaft and Housing Guide width for cage and Roller assembliesThe tolerances for the guide width, b, are based on cage width, Bc, and shown in Table 5(see Fig. 1).BcbTable 5 Tolerance for Guide Width, bFig. 1 Guide Width Fillet radiusThe fillet radius of the shaft and housing shoulder in contact with the cage end surface should not interfere with the cage itself.

Fitting tolerances for shafts and housing boresFitting tolerances for shafts and housing bores under various operating conditions are shown in Table 6. Shaft inclinationPermissible shaft inclinations from elastic deflection by anexternal force and mounting error are shown in Table shaft inclination exceeds that in this table, pleasecontact NSK, as it is necessary to change the amount ofroller crowning and increase internal 7 Shaft InclinationTable 6 Fitting Tolerances for Shafts and Housing BoresUnits: mmCarbon steel for machine construction (for carbonizing)S15CK (JIS G 4051)Chrome molybdenum steel (for carbonizing)SCM415~421 (JIS G 4105)Chrome steel (for carbonizing)SCr415, 420 (JIS G 4104)Nickel chrome steel (for carbonizing)SNC415~815 (JIS G 4102)Nickel chrome molybdenum steel (for carbonizing) SNCM220, 415, 420 (JIS G 4103)JIS: Japanese Industrial StandardOther materials, such as S50C and S55C, can be utilizedwith through hardening or induction to 64 Appropriate depth of hardenedlayer to 64 Appropriate depth of hardenedlayer requiredHousingCylindricity ToleranceRoughness, RaHardnessMetricTypeTolerance for b+ + + ConditionsFitting Tolerance for Housing BoreG6G6G6f6h5g5j5h5 Fitting Tolerance forShaftFw 50 mmFw> 50 mmHigh Accuracy,Oscillating MotionNormalHigh Temperature,Large Shaft Deflection,Mounting ErrorCage Width (mm)over Inclination (mm/mm) cage & Needle Roller AssembliesCage & Needle Roller AssembliesBcEw Fw BcEw Fw BcEw Fw BcEw Fw BcEw Fw BcEw Fw BcEw Fw BcEw Fw bearing NumbersBoundary Dimensions (mm)Basic Load Ratings (N)
