Data may not add due 2 Unemployment Rate Gap Between CALIFORNIA and employment Status and Unemployment Rates Vary Among Demographic Groups CALIFORNIA 's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was percent in December, down percentage point from November, and down percentage points from one year ago.
5 In comparison, the unemployment rate was percent in December, down percentage point from November, and down percentage points from one year ago. Civilian employment increased by 117,000 in December to 17,837,000 persons. This followed an increase of 80,000 persons in November. On a year-over basis, civilian employment was up 880,000 persons ( percent). Unemployment decreased by 87,000 in December to 1,238,000 persons, following a decrease of 58,000 in November. The number of unemployed was down 510,000 persons ( percent) from December 2020. Over the year, the CALIFORNIA civilian LABOR force was up 370,000 persons ( percent) in December 2021 . By race and ethnicity, the December unemployment rate for blacks was percent, Hispanics percent, and the rate for whites was percent.
6 The unemployment rates for whites decreased by percentage point, the rate for blacks decreased by percentage point, and the rate for Hispanics decreased by percentage point. By age group, the unemployment rate was highest for Californians aged 16-19 years at percent. The rates for the six age groups between 20 years and 65+ years ranged from percent to percent. Over the month, the unemployment rate for those in age group 20-24 years decreased by percentage point, while the unemployment rate for those in age group 25-34 years decreased by percentage point. For those in age groups 45-54 years, 55-64 years, and 65+ years the unemployment rate decreased by percentage point. The unemployment rate for those in age group 35-44 years decreased by percentage point.

Job losers decreased over the month by 62,000 persons ( percent) and decreased by 648,000 persons ( percent) since December 2020.
10 LABOR force re-entrants were the next largest reason group, accounting for 320,000 persons or percent of all unemployed. By duration, the largest group of unemployed persons was those unemployed 52 weeks and over, accounting for 376,000 persons or percent of all unemployed. The next largest group of unemployed persons were those unemployed 5 to 14 weeks, accounting for 310,000 persons or percent of all unemployed. 4 Full-time and Part-time employment ; Persons Not in the LABOR Force The majority ( percent) of all employed Californians usually work full time (35 hours or more per week in all jobs). There were 825,000 persons who worked part time involuntarily, also known as "part time for economic reasons. They comprised of percent of all persons at work during the survey week.
