1 Berkeley Youth Alternatives (BYA) Job Description Case Manager for Employment and Reentry Services Career Development Center The Case Manager for Employment and Reentry Services will have the primary responsibility for ensuring that youth, young adults, and some dislocated workers are provided with ready access to an array of Employment and Reentry services. The main work of the position will be to ensure that there is no wrong door for participants in need of services. The Case Manager for Employment and Reentry Services will also connect the participants to the local One-Stop Career System.

2 JOB FUNCTIONS Outreaches and assesses youth, young adults, and some dislocated workers for work readiness, skills, strengths, aptitudes and any potential limitations/barriers to Employment and post secondary education. Enrolls participants in a Workforce Investment Act (WIA)-Supported program. Develops Employment and vocational plans with goals and timelines that will help participants move their job search and vocational training forward. Assists participants to become work-ready by identifying barriers and offering resources/solutions.

3 Assists with the creation of professional job search tools including resumes, cover letters, portfolios, etc. Measure: Each participant has a completed assessment and service strategy. Measure: Works with at least 35-40 participants throughout the fiscal year. Measure: Outreaches to local vocational training programs, detention centers, foster care providers, local trade associations, and community based organizations. Refers participants to the BYA Counseling Center for a mental health assessment. Ensures that participants are meeting with their Mental Health counselor, when necessary.

4 Works with each participant s Mental Health counselor to ensure that the vocational and Employment plan accounts for any mental and/or social development issues. Measure: Each participant has an initial Mental Health assessment. Orients, interviews, screens, and counsels participants for various One-Stop Career Center services. Serves as a facilitator and a mentor to ensure that the participants do not go through any wrong doors and that they have access to education, training, Employment , and career development services.

5 Assists with organizing mini-job fairs. Measure: Provide documentation on clinical services provided to the participants using the BYA Clinical System. Measure: At least 1 Mini-job fair is held on a quarterly basis. Creates outreach and marketing materials that can be distributed and displayed that encourage participants to enter. Works with BYA s technical and web support team to create a youth-friendly webpage that links BYA to other service providers. Refers eligible participants to the BYA Internship and Training Coordinator for placement into internships and Employment opportunities that are appropriate to skills, aptitudes, and interests.

6 Teaches participants how to network and cold call to uncover job leads that are not posted. Makes calls, solicits and networks with employers to identify and/or create job openings and internship opportunities. Intakes and provides career guidance, perform intake services, including surveying skills, interests and abilities, assist participants to explore vocational options. Measure: Conducts group sessions on Career Interests, Interviewing, Resumes, and Job Searches. Submit sign-in sheets on participants. EDUCATION and OTHER REQUIREMENTS: -Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW), Counseling, or Psychology or other directly related field with at least 3 years experience OR Bachelors Degree in the above fields with at least 5 years of experience required.

7 MSW Strongly Preferred -Valid California Driver's License or State Identification -Proof of ability to work in the US -First Aid Certificate -CPR Training -Fingerprinting and Criminal Background Check through LiveScan -Transcripts of most advanced degree program -Submit one recent writing sample 5-7 pages maximum -Familiar with the Workforce Investment Act program is strongly preferred. -Experience with the computer technology, health care, law enforcement, construction and/or green industry jobs preferred -Experience working with gang-affiliated youth helpful -Exceptional with time management, able to multi-task, and meet deadlines.

8 -Experience with case management for youth and young adults considered high-risk. -Culturally competent serving ethnically and socio-economically diverse young adults. -Able to work efficiently with minimal supervision. -Experienced and comfortable working with youth in a one-on-one and group settings. -Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. -Previous experience assisting people to find Employment . -Familiar with Bay Area labor market, workforce investment system and One-Stop Centers is a plus.

9 -An understanding of adversities faced by young adults with legal infractions. -Computer: able to utilize Microsoft Excel and Word, and other programs to produce reports, conduct tracking and store data on youth. We are a fast-paced organization that relies heavily upon email. There will be a Microsoft Excel and Word test which all applicants will take to determine competency levels. HOURS: Full-Time; Business Hours of the organization are 9-6pm. Must be available to work at least 6pm daily. Very limited weekends, on occasion.

10 LOCATION: 1255 Allston Way, Berkeley, CA. SALARY: $40,000-$45,000 FTE depending on education and experience + medical benefits; some cost-sharing may be required.
