RAND Worldwide UPDATES CATIA V5 TRAINING WITH R17 Courses Mississauga, ON, October 2, 2007 RAND A Technology Corporation [TSX: RND], operating as RAND Worldwide , a global leader in providing technology solutions to organizations with engineering design and information technology requirements, announced it has launched CATIA V5 R17 training Courses as the standard upgrade for all public CATIA V5 training classes. Developed by RAND s ASCENT Center for Technical Knowledge division, the R17 curriculum offers a number of additional enhancements. RAND s R17 Courses include: CATIA V5: introduction to Modeling CATIA V5: Functional Tolerancing & Annotation CATIA V5: introduction for NC and FEA Engineers CATIA V5: Generative Drafting (ANSI or ISO) CATIA V5: introduction for Managers and Reviewers CATIA V5: R17 Update Training CATIA V5: introduction to Surface Design CATIA V5: Sheet Metal Design CATIA V5: Advanced Assembly Design & Management DMU V5: Navigator & Space Analysis CATIA V5: Advanced Part Design DMU V5: Kinematics CATIA V5: Advanced Surface Design DMU V5: Fitting Simulator Our ASCENT team is continually exploring ways to improve our training curriculum, said Joe Oswald, Executive Vice President PLM Operations, North America and Europe, RAND Worldwide .

By incorporating our client s feedback and training requirements we further enable engineers to optimize their performance on the job. The CATIA V5: introduction to Modeling course continues to provide skill enhancement training for multiple industries, with the updated course content placing a greater emphasis on topics applicable to the automotive industry. To increase students hands-on learning experience, the curriculum contains 17 new exercises and projects. A new chapter concentrating on multi-body models gives students greater exposure to complex, real-world parts and how to structure, modify, and interpret them. In addition, the course s improved content focuses on topics such as positioned sketches, sketcher formulas, axis system creation, draft creation using non-planar neutral elements, feature failure and resolution, and using reference elements to perform measurements, providing students with a wider array of modeling knowledge and skills. The CATIA V5: Sheet Metal Design course is now a two-day class designed to better outline the increased functionality available with the R17 Generative Sheet Metal Design workbench.

With nine new exercises and two new chapters, the upgraded course provides a greater content focus on a number of workbench components including rolled walls, the Hopper features, conical bends, duplication tools, stamping, and part conversion. The CATIA V5: Generative Drafting course contains significant enhancements intended to increase students exposure to the Drafting workbench functionality and methodology. New chapters in the updated curriculum focus on view modification, geometric tolerancing, and 2D components. The course covers frame and title block customization through VB Scripting, provides detailed explanations of the different areas of the title block script, and offers a real world customization exercise. Students also have the opportunity to work with the FT&A view extraction module to help them prepare for RAND s CATIA V5: Functional Tolerancing and Annotation course . CAD operators will specifically benefit from the enhanced course content, as it offers detailed instructions on view positioning, profile modification, creating section views from 3D models, linear dimensioning, 3D support, attribute links, and view generation modes.

RAND s CATIA V5: introduction for Non-Designers content is covered in two separate new Courses entitled: CATIA V5: introduction for NC and FEA Engineers and CATIA V5: introduction for Managers and Reviewers. By offering two separate Courses and in turn providing more detailed instructions, each course better address the learning needs of data reviewers and CAD operators who are preparing to take manufacturing, analysis, or other advanced training topics. The CATIA V5: introduction for NC and FEA Engineers provides a basic introduction to solid and surface modeling through its focus on basic CATIA V5 interface and modeling tools. The course topics provide NC and FEA CAD operators with the foundation required for further training through the CATIA V5: Generative Structural Analysis and CATIA V5: Numerical Control Manufacturing Courses . The CATIA V5: introduction for Managers and Reviewers class focuses on the reviewer rather than the modeler role, providing students with an overview of how CATIA V5 is used as a design and viewing tool within an organization.

Managers learn about the issues their CAD operators face on a daily basis, while learning about the types of data CAD operators typically interface with. Reviewer training focuses on specific CATIA V5 operations from marketing image captures to extracting vital data from the CATIA V5 model. Students taking this course learn how to access other users data and gather information such as measurements, clash and sectioning analyses, and image captures. They also learn how to create dimension drawing views. CATIA V5: introduction to Surface Design, CATIA V5: Advanced Surface Design, and CATIA V5: Advanced Assembly Design & Management Courses now include additional exercises that focus on the aerospace, automotive and consumer products industries. To better help students translate skills to their design projects at work, the new exercises offer real world simulation functions for each industry. RAND employs 50 full-time certified instructors globally and provides extensive, high-quality professional development programs for Autodesk , Dassault Syst mes and PTC software solutions.
