If parked on the Old Purdy Road, about a half block away. Looking north from the Prospect CEMETERY directly north it can be seen. This CEMETERY was established after the land purchased from Sam and Pet McPeters of Falcon, Tenn. There are several unmarked graves in both cemeteries. Mt Zion CEMETERY is located on Old Purdy Road in Selmer near the Mt Zion Church. It is an old CEMETERY and about 45 graves are Bethel CEMETERY , according to T C Williams, was on the west side of Bethel Springs, on a hill top on what is now Parkway St. A Church was located near the place for several years until they bought land and moved to the other side of highway 45. Approximately 40 graves. Several veterans of the Civil War are buried there. During the War, Confederate soldiers dug a trench on a hill that over looked the little town of Bethel Springs, then the Union Army moved in and took over.

The Union Army stayed until the end of the Purdy CEMETERY is located in what was once the most thriving town in the county, in Purdy, the first county seat. Located on the hill west of the Old Walker Spring, and on the south side of Old Stage Road. There are two cemeteries called Purdy CEMETERY . The one located down by the main road is a white CEMETERY . The Old Purdy CEMETERY was mixed from the very beginning. It is thought it was started as the Benjamin Wright family CEMETERY as his family is the earliest graves. Benjamin Wright was buried nearby to where he lived. He built the first cabin in the town of Purdy near where his monument stands. (Today 2011, the monument has been almost destroyed.) Bemjamin Wright buried his slaves to the east of the family in the same CEMETERY . The Old Stage Road from Purdy to Bethel Springs went north of the CEMETERY .

The Old Purdy CEMETERY has recent graves of both reces buried there. The old CEMETERY is large, scatted on the hill and is very mich in need of repair. There are many, many unmarked graves in the old CEMETERY was established after land was purchased from Col Purviance of MCNAIRY County. This CEMETERY is located on Purdy Road beside the Prospect Methodist church about a mile from the Bethesda and Old Purdy Road running east or from the first road running up a slope north from the County Hospital, maybe two city Springs CEMETERY is located on Wright Street in Bethel Srpings. Henry Sanders states the condition (in 2004) of the CEMETERY is poor and has about 40 unmarked Chapel CEMETERY is located near the MCNAIRY community in the northern part of MCNAIRY County. The condition of the CEMETERY is good, being cleaned 2-3 times a year.

It is estimated there are about 50 unmarked Olive church is gone except for a pile of wood and the CEMETERY is a thicket so dense one cannot get to it. One can get to the CEMETERY but will have to cross a little creek with no bridge. It would the best to go in the winter because of the undergrowth. It is a family CEMETERY located on the old Adolph Reinhardt lands. The CEMETERY is not very large but has a lot of unmarked 2 CEMETERY DOCUMENTATION of MCNAIRY County, Tennessee, MinoritiesNAMECEMETERYBIRTH DATE DEATH DATE Dist AGE OTHER INFORMATIONBY NAMESt Rest CEMETERY is located on Sticine Road, just east of Hwy 45 south , in southern MCNAIRY County. The church and CEMETERY was located on what was then known as the Corinth Purdy Road. About 1950 the church moved to Hwy 45.

The CEMETERY is well kept and has about 75-80 unmarked CEMETERY is a very old CEMETERY , probably dating back to pre-civil war days. It is located on the north side of the road from Guys to Chewalla about 1/4 of a mile in the woods. Work has been started to clean this CEMETERY (in 2004.) the Tate family came to MCNAIRY County before 1840 from Georgia bringing their slaves with them. The family CEMETERY was to the east of the house and is now known as Olive Hill because a church was established there in the 1920's. The slave CEMETERY was located to the north of the house. The Tate children married into the Pittman, Spiers, and Ramer families and they also had slaves, so it is possiblethose names are connected to this CEMETERY . Most of the people on the west side of what is now Hwy 45 south could be buried here.

There are a few markers, a few sand stones and the rest are unmarked. To the north west of the CEMETERY in the woods, is two small cemeteries. One is white and one is black. It is unknown who is buried in either one. It is thought the Luke Barnhill family is buried in one with only a few CEMETERY is located north of teh town of Ramer and is to one side of the CEMETERY . Many people call this the Wade CEMETERY , reason unknown. There are about 40 unmarked CEMETERY community is located in the northern part of MCNAIRY county. A church, school and graveyard for the public was established in 1851. Slaves were the first to be buried in the Refuge graveyard. It is unknown how many un marked graves are here as the slaves were on one side and down through the years it is hard to find the dividing Hill (taken from Reflections - A History of MCNAIRY County.)

For every community or small town people call home in the county today, there was probably another one that had a church, a store, a school, but is no more - such was Sand Hill. It was an area about two miles south of Pleasant Site. It's name came from the hills and sandy soil. It boasted of many black families: the Damerons - J D, P T Mattie, Top and Jeff; M C Tate, John Brown, Dave and Caliph Armstrong, A Chappell, Luke Hodge, Will Ray, Dola Surratt, Henry Calicutt and many more. Some owned land like Jeff Damerson and others share-cropped. The blacks and the white associated with each other. Orlan Watson related how he and his brother Luther moved Ted and Nancy Damron from Flatwoods back to Sand Hill. They played with Ted's children. The blacks visited the white church and sat in the back.
