2015 MINNESOTA plumbing CODE59 Part I Drainage Drainage Piping. Materials for drainage pipingshall be in accordance with one of the referenced standardsin Table except that:(1) Galvanized wrought-iron and galvanized steel pipeshall not be used underground and shall be kept notless than 6 inches (152 mm) aboveground.(2) ABS and PVC DWV piping installations shall beinstalled in accordance with applicable standards refer-enced in Table (3) No vitrified clay pipe or fittings shall be used above-ground or where pressurized by a pump or shall be kept not less than 12 inches (305 mm)belowground.

(4) Copper tube for drainage and vent piping shall have aweight of not less than that of copper drainage tubetype DWV.(5) Stainless steel 304 pipe and fittings shall not beinstalled underground and shall be kept not less than 6inches (152 mm) aboveground.(6) Cast-iron soil pipe and fittings shall be listed and testedin accordance with standards referenced in Such pipe and fittings shall be marked withcountry of origin and identification of the originalmanufacturer in addition to markings required by refer-enced Drainage Fittings. Materials for drainage fittingsshall comply with the applicable standards referenced inTable of the same diameter as the piping served, andsuch fittings shall be compatible with the type of pipe Screwed Pipe.

Fittings on screwed pipeshall be of the recessed drainage type. Burred endsshall be reamed to the full bore of the Threads. The threads of drainage fittingsshall be tapped so as to allow 1 4inch per foot ( ) Type. Fittings used for drainage shall be ofthe drainage type, have a smooth interior water-way,and be constructed so as to allow 1 4inch per foot ( ) Lead. (See Table ) Sheet lead shall be notless than the following:(1) For safe pans not less than 4 pounds per square footlb/ft2(19 kg/m2) or 1 16of an inch ( mm) thick.(2) For flashings or vent terminals not less than 3 lb/ft2(15 kg/m2) or of an inch ( mm) thick.

(3) Lead bends and lead traps shall be not less than 1 8ofan inch ( mm) wall Caulking ferrules shall bemanufactured from bronze or copper and shall be in accor-dance with Table Soldering Bushings. Soldering bushings shall beof bronze or copper in accordance with Table Fixture Unit Trap unit equivalent of plumbing fixturesshown in Table shall be based on the size of the traprequired, and the unit equivalent of fixtures and devices notshown in Table shall be based on the size of trap ortrap drainage fixture units for a fixture trap andtrap arm loadings for sizes up to 4 inches (100 mm) shall bein accordance with Table (a).

Intermittent fixture units for inter-mittent flow into the drainage system shall be computed onthe rated discharge capacity in gallons per minute (gpm)(L/s) in accordance with Table (b). Continuous Flow. For a continuous flow into adrainage system, such as from a pump, sump ejector, airconditioning equipment, or similar device, 2 fixture unitsshall be equal to each gallon per minute (gpm) ( L/s)of Size of Drainage Minimum Size. The minimum sizes of vertical, horizontal, or both drainage piping shall be determinedfrom the total of fixture units connected thereto, and addi-tionally, in the case of vertical drainage pipes, in accor-dance with their SIZE(inches)INSIDEDIAMETER(inches)LENGTH (inches)MINIMUM WEIGHT EACH poundsounces221 441 210331 441 2112441 441 228 TABLE FERRULESFor SI units: 1 inch = 25 mm, 1 pound = kg, 1 ounce = kgPIPESIZE(inches)MINIMUM WEIGHT EACHPIPESIZE(inches)MINIMUM WEIGHT EACH poundsouncespoundsounces11 40621 21611 2083202014438 TABLE BUSHINGSFor SI units.
