1 Chapter 9: Learning and human resource development HRM in Practice BNY Mellon and advanced apprenticeships BNY Mellon a global financial services company based in Manchester has developed an Advanced Apprenticeship scheme in collaboration with The National Skills Academy for Financial Services (NSAFS). One result for three quarters of those that participated in the scheme has been promotion to more senior roles. The programme also helps create high staff satisfaction. In addition, 90 per cent of those completing the scheme are still working with the company, four years after the programme began.
2 Over the four years, 110 staff have participated in the programme in the company s Manchester office. Open to graduates and non graduation., staff can access education while building their careers in the company. The company, which came to Manchester in 2005, recognised the enthusiasm of a young workforce but wanted a comprehensive training programme that would ensure that they gained the knowledge, skills and attributes for current and future roles. In 2009, by which time 72 staff had completed their apprenticeships, the company achieved recognition at the annual National Training Awards for its outstanding contribution and commitment to training in the workplace.
