While thousands of needy folks seek assistance, Salvation Army officers, employees and volunteers are working to help meet the demands placed on them. The common call from The Salvation Army is for volunteers to ring the bell at the familiar red kettles that are on the sidewalks in front of stores visited by holiday shoppers. In some places, the bell ringers have been banned, such as at Target Stores. The Army is scrambling to find other locations, and its prayers have been answered by Circuit City, Michaels and Books-A-Million. Wal-Mart and Kmart will still allow the Salvation Army out-side their stores this year. A rule of thumb commonly quoted by The Salvation Army is that the loss of a location like Target means a loss of $10,000 for each store not allowing the kettles.

As Rotarians, our motto is Service Above Self. Let s show our community that we really mean it, and volunteer to help The Salvation Army on Saturday, December 18, at Publix in Charlotte Harbor raise money, so that they can help others. Material from The Salvation Army web site was used in this article. Colorful Meetings No one can accuse our members of being bland, at least when it comes to clothing. Don Roll sports a bright pink shirt, while Karol Wyckoff displays a sweater with a kaleido-scope of colors. Mike Moody and David Ivankovic get ready to pay Happy Dollars to Sergeant Eliza-beth Burdick for their safe return to Florida from the frozen wastelands. We may get hurricanes, but we haven t had snow yet! The Conquistador Rotary is all about showing service, to help someone else.

The world is improved wherever Rotarians leave their mark. Danny Brock Rotarian Guest Editor, Program Chair & Speaker All At The Same Meeting! By Guest Editor Wayne Sallad December is Rotary Family Month Rummaging through the debris in the Best Western storage room, Ponce decides there isn t much left to be found; it s time for the Club to move forward and build for the future. Ponce Well, here it is, Pearl Harbor Day, and again our brave men & women of the mili-tary are engaged in a struggle on for-eign soil. Please take time today to remember what happened so long ago on this date, and why we continue to meet head on those who would do us harm. Your guest editor hit the rack about two hours and 45 minutes before getting up to at-tend the meeting about which this bulletin was written.

So, if something is missing, or terribly askew, please forgive me. Vicki and I returned to Tampa from Arizona at just after 1 AM. Tuesday, after covering 6,000 miles in six days. President Carl opened our gathering on time and Major Gene Gesner offered our prayer of thanksgiving for food and fellow-ship. Dave Riley led us in the Pledge to our Flag and Don Roll guided us through 'America The Beautiful'. Each table was given the op-portunity to select Salvation Army Angels; The unwrapped gifts are due back by our Christmas party- please make your meal selec-tions if you haven't done so- on Dec. 15th. We welcomed seven guest Rotarians and had an almost full house once again. Mike Colgan tried to coax make-ups from the ranks of the missing during Thanksgiving Week, but wasn't too successful.

Bob Clendenin always has a make-up, but never needs one. Go figure. After consuming our usual fare, the room was asked for Happy Dollars. Major Gene was glad the Angels had magically appeared. I was truly happy for our remarkable trip out West and our escape just hours before a bliz-zard hit Western Colorado. Mike Moody was grateful for a safe trip and return from Phila-delphia and New York City by the Port Char-lotte High Pirates Marching Band. Dave Ivankovic was likewise thankful for a safe return from a holiday trip to Spencer Bailey was thrilled with his North Carolina Tarheels fast start in roundball, and will no doubt be equally excited this week about the ACC's smashing success in it's basketball chal-lenge with the Big Ten. Spencer also shared a great story about the Thanksgiving Turkey too smart for his own good.
