2 (a) Preview the selection. (b) Set a Purpose for reading. (c) Relate previous experiences to what is read. (d) Make and confirm predictions. (e) Ask and answer who, what, when, where, why, and how questions about what is read. (f) Identify characters, setting, and important events. (g) Retell stories and events, using beginning, middle, and end. (h) Identify the main idea or theme. (i) Read and reread familiar stories, poems, and passages with fluency, accuracy, and meaningful expression. Objective The student will be able to use descriptive words, proper punctuation and spelling in a final copy writing assignment about their favorite food, and be able to complete a sequencing worksheet based on the read aloud book, both with 80% accuracy. Procedure Introduction o Invite the students to come to the rug.

3 O Tell the students that you are going to be working with adjectives today, and you will be reading them a book that uses a lot of descriptive words. o Ask them if they have a favorite thing (food, game, toy, etc.) and have them describe it using 2 words, to the class. o Then introduce the students to the book you are reading aloud dragons love tacos by Adam Rubin. o Ask the students to guess what they think the book is about, or what will happen during the story. Tell them to keep their ideas and predictions in their minds while they listen to the story. Development o Read the story to the students. Stop on page ** and ask the class Can you tell me some descriptive words used on this page? and call on a couple students to respond o Stop on page ** and ask What do you think is going to happen to the dragons since they ate the spicy salsa?

4 And call on a couple students to respond o Once you finish reading the story, ask a few students to recall their favorite part of the story and share with the class then talk about the descriptive words used refer back to Pages **. Write some of the descriptive words on the board. o Tell the students that the first activity they are going to do is write about their favorite food and draw a picture to go along. Tell them to make sure they are using adjectives to describe their favorite foods and tell why they are their favorites. o Tell students that after they finish their writing activity they have a worksheet to complete, the first side they are asked to sequence the events of the book what happened in the beginning, middle and end. o Ask the students to read quietly at their desk once they finish their activities.

5 O For struggling students: Ask them to describe their favorite food out loud to you and see if they can come up with some ideas verbally before writing Allow them to use the book to review before the sequencing worksheet o For advanced students: Ask them to describe a food they do not like and tell why Summary o After the students have finished their activities, ask them to return to the rug. o Ask the students to tell you what adjectives are and give examples o Ask a couple students to read their writing activity about their favorite food aloud to the class. o Ask for a student to volunteer and share the events of the book by beginning, middle and end. o Collect all of the writing activities and sequencing worksheets. Materials dragons love tacos by Adam Rubin Sequencing/word search worksheet Writing paper Evaluation Part A The students will be evaluated based on their writing activity proper punctuation, spelling and use of adjectives.

6 Students will also be evaluated based on their sequencing worksheet and their ability to recall the events of the book in chronological order. Evaluation Part B Explain whether or not the students met your objective(s) and how you know they did or did not meet them Describe the strengths and weaknesses of your teaching of the lesson Reflect on how you would change the lesson
