Every statement presented finds its origin in the pure divine metaphysics, given by Mary Baker Eddy, the one Revelator of CHRISTIAN SCIENCE , in SCIENCE AND HEALTH WITH KEY TO THE SCRIP-TURES, the textbook of CHRISTIAN SCIENCE and in her other writings.

3 God does not need two revelators of one spiritual fact. One is sufficient. Indeed there could not be two, for more than one would simply be repetition not revelation. These books tell their readers nothing new whatever, but they have proved useful in re-minding each reader of what he already knows and has learned from all that Mrs. Eddy demon- strated in her unselfish labours for mankind since 1866 and from her numerous writings. In reminding the reader of what he already knows, they have given an impulse to his thought, have encouraged him to use what he knows and have blessed him This Preface would not be complete unless I added the further statement that all my writings are the result of the devoted and tireless coop-eration, these many years, of my dear wife, Bessie Moore Eustace, To her I owe my endless gratitude for having made it possible, under God's ever-guiding direction, to produce them.

4 (Signed: Herbert W. Eustace)Los Angeles, 1953 It might properly be stated that in this single volume com-prising my previously published books, there appear some 30,000 words of text which have not heretofore been put into book form. Included is the 22,000 word report of meetings held recently in London, New York, Los Angeles, and Berkeley -- under the caption & quot ;Translation of 'the false prophet' of Revelation into Mind,& quot ; the Ascension, or CHRISTIAN SCIENCE Era. - ALL IS THINE byBESSIE MOORE EUSTACE_____Why worry for the future?Eternal good is mine,For have I not His promise& quot ;SON, all I have is thine.& quot ;Why fret about past failures?God would not have me pineBecause these words I doubted,& quot ;SON, all I have is thine.& quot ;Why live not for the present?Love knows no other timeIn which to prove this blessing& quot ;SON, all I have is thine.

Nothing can be added to the completeness ofMrs. Eddy's statement of CHRISTIAN SCIENCE , SCIENCE and Health, the textbook of ChristianScience, for it is all-sufficient, needing no ampli-fication or elucidation. What, then, it may properly be asked, is thereason for this book? The answer must rest upon the effectivenesswith which it helps the reader to understandChristian SCIENCE and so proves & quot ;useful& quot ; in com-pelling him to think SCIENCE and Health, insteadof merely reading its words.

6 During the thirty-two years that I have beenholding CHRISTIAN SCIENCE classes, approximate-ly twenty-seven hundred people have attendedthem and, inevitably, countless questions havearisen. 1 S. & H. Pref. x: 1015vi FOREWORD Since 1923 there has been no restriction placed upon the taking of notes in the classes, as it has been my conviction that each one has the right to acquire an understanding of CHRISTIAN SCIENCE in his own way. As a consequence, there are in cir-culation a great many notes taken by various per-sons and passed about among friends. When these were brought to me, as sometimes happened, with the request that I CORRECT or re-vise them, I invariably refrained from doing so because notes convey to the one who originally took them vastly more than appears on the sur-face. Were another to attempt to revise them, their meaning to the recorder might be endan-gered. But with this large accumulation of notes in a wide diversity of phrasing already circulating freely, it is, I feel, not only expedient but honest that I should state clearly by going completely through a class the fundamentals of the pure metaphysical reasoning of & quot ; clear , CORRECT teach-ing& quot ; 1 as it has unfolded in the various classes.

7 A class in CHRISTIAN SCIENCE is spontaneous communion with Mind. Questions and answers arise naturally in the course of its unfoldment, for & quot ;Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord,& quot ; 2 is the invitation of Mind always. 1 My. 297:18. 2 Isa. 1 FOREWORD vii Each class is individual in character and pro-gresses from its own starting point as though itwere evolving for the first time. A CHRISTIAN SCIENCE class is not a lecture course. It has nothing about it that is stereo-typed. It is purely spontaneous from beginning to end, full of & quot ;wit, humor, and enduring vivacity& quot ;. 1 However, there is the general foundation upon which all classes must be laid, and it is the purpose of this book to present such a founda-tion. A record of what has taken place in the dis-cussion of a subject is not at all the same thing as an effort to reformulate the subject. A book, for instance, may record facts deduced from mathe-matics without reformulating the basic principles of mathematics.

8 It is impossible, in fact, to re-formulate a subject that has once been revealed as exact scientific truth. As such, it is unchange-able, and thereafter it is only possible to draw conclusions from it that are applicable to human advancement. Hence this book will be a presen-tation of facts deduced and the fundamentals from which they are deduced, not an attempt to reformulate the subject. It is, of course, impossible to go into the minutiae of class discussion because every class takes its own trend according to the demand of 1 Mis. 117: FOREWORD those in the class. It is my purpose to cover the general ground of what the metaphysical reason-ing and the application of such reasoning inChristian SCIENCE actually means, and, in doing so, to show how it is in consonance with all that Mrs. Eddy has written on this subject. For the unselfish assistance of a number of scholarly, consecrated CHRISTIAN Scientists in the preparation of this book, I am deeply grateful.

9 If the book proves profitable to the reader, I know his appreciation of their work will be added to mine. (Signature of Herbert W.
