Colored, water -reducing, set-control-ling Admixtures for horizontal or verticalarchitectural and Uses:Time-testedand proven for over 45 years, CHROMIX Admixtures for Color-Condi-tioned Concrete provide permanent,fade-resistant, uniform, and streak-freeintegral color-conditioning for all types ofconcrete projects, from floors and hard-scapes to cast-in-place or precast are true water -reducing admix-tures, premeasured and packaged indisintegrating bags for easy and accu-rate addition into the concrete mix. Pro-ducing concrete that is structurallysuperior as well as beautiful and costeffective, CHROMIX Admixtures notonly color concrete, but increase itsstrength at all ages, control the set time, and improve freeze/thaw workability and finishing char-acteristics are achieved.

Color bleeding, laitance, and efflorescence are addition of a CHROMIX Admixtureprovides endless design possibilities forconcrete flatwork. Hardscapes can bebrought to life with rich color or beblended into the landscape. Color-condi-tioned floors and walks can create awarm, inviting atmosphere while offeringan easy-to-maintain, wear-resistant sur-face. Patterns can be formed in contrast-ing or complimentary colors or by use ofdifferent textures and a single color. Defi-nition can be produced by scoring orsawcutting. Texture adds depth and slipresistance when aggregates are exposedby sandblasting or use of a surfaceretarder, and color-conditioned concretecan achieve the look and feel of more ex-pensive paving materials such as allow hardscapes and floors to reachtheir full color potential and beauty, SCOFIELD has developed a complete sys-tem of color-matched curing, finishing, and joint-sealing materials especiallydesigned for use with color-conditionedconcrete.

SCOFIELD products are alsoavailable for producing superior exposedaggregate flatwork. Additional informa-tion is available in SCOFIELD s Tech-DataBulletinsA-514 LITHOCHROME Color-wax , A-634 COLORCURE ConcreteSealer,andS-404-3G LITHOSEAL Tr af fi cal k-3G ,T-204 LITHOTEX To pSurface Retarder,andA-764 CEMEN-TONE Clear Admixtures are premea-sured for the concrete mix design andpackaged in SCOFIELD Tossin dis-integrating bags. Unlike products thatincrease the risk of error by requiringweighing, mathematical calculations, orthe addition of multiple bags, only onebag of a CHROMIX Admixture is addedfor each cubic yard (meter) of and easy to use, the Tossin bagis normally added unopened directly intothe mixer truck, minimizing dust, lower-ing disposal and labor costs, and savingroom in overcrowded some flatwork applicationsLITHOCHROME Color Hardener ispreferentially recommended.

Applied bythe dry-shake method, it produces hard, dense surfaces with increased resis-tance to wear, abrasion, and the effects offreeze/thaw cycles and deicing Color Hardener shouldnormally be used to color-harden flat-troweled interior floors, and althoughconcrete color-conditioned with CHRO-MIX Admixture can be imprinted, the useof LITHOCHROME Color Hardener ispreferred. Its rich finishing paste createssharper patterns and its harder surfaceprovides greater wear resistance. When aheavier-duty, more slip-resistant surfaceis required, the use of EMERCHROME Floor Hardener should be considered, and for elegant, stone-like, multicoloredfloors and hardscapes, the possibilitiesof LITHOTEX Colorstone should beexplored.

Additional information is avail-able in SCOFIELD s Tech-Data BulletinsA-104 LITHOCHROME Color Hardener,A-204 EMERCHROME Floor Hardener,andA-904 LITHOTEX LITHOCHROME Chem-stain over concrete color-conditionedwith a CHROMIX Admixture createsuneven, variegated or translucent coloreffects, much like the shadings of naturalstone or the aged appearance of a time-worn patina. The result is unique to eachsurface and cannot be duplicated by othercoloring materials. When chemicallystaining new concrete flatwork, the useof LITHOCHROME Color Hardener pro-vides a wider range of colors and aharder, more abrasion-resistant information is available inScofield s Tech-Data BulletinA-414 LITHOCHROME using, check with your ScofieldCustomer Service Representative toensure that you have the most recentScofield Tech-Data.

Duetothegrayingeffectof most cements, there are some colorsthat can only be produced using verylight or white cements, and some light orintense colors cannot be cost-effectivelyachieved. Variations in slump, cementtype and brand, color variations in thecement or aggregates, finished texture, timing of operations, curing or formingmethods, and the choice of releaseagents or surface treatments will eachproduce distinct, though in most casesslight, variations in apparent mix should have a maximum slumpof four inches (100 mm) and must con-tain a minimum of five sacks per cubicyard (275 kg/m3) of cement for flatworkand six sacks per cubic yard (335 kg/m3)for vertical concrete.

No calcium chlorideshould be added. The same brand ofcement, source of sand, and water / cement ratio should be maintained foreach load of concrete of the same Admixtures should never beadded to an empty drum or at the tail endof a load. Though manufactured to disin-tegrate in typical concrete mixes, SCOFIELD Tossin bags may not com-pletely disintegrate during mixing whencertain batching and mixing proceduresor equipment is used, or with some mixingredients and proportions. A test batchmay be required to determine mixing timeand suitability, or the Tossin bag may beopened and the color-conditioningadmixture batched directly into the and Materials:Manu-factured specifically for use in concrete, CHROMIX Admixtures are colored, water -reducing, set-controlling admix-tures that contain no calcium are formulated to disperse coloraccurately and uniformly throughout theconcrete mix, with coloring agents thatare limeproof and have maximum resis-tance to the effects of sunlight (UV).

: CHROMIX Admixtures areavailable in several types for specificproject requirements. CHROMIX Admix-ture, a Type A, normal-set water -reduc-ing admixture, and CHROMIX Ad-mixture, Retarder, a Type D retarded-setwater-reducing admixture, have a re-fined lignosulfonate base. CHROMIXA dmixture, HCA-2 Retarder, HCA-3 Retarder, and HCA-4 Retarder are rec-ommended when greater retardation isrequired and are hydroxylated carboxylicacid based. The suffix numbers refer tothe rate of retardation with HCA-4 pro-ducing the greatest Standards and BuildingCodes:As formulated water -reducingadmixtures, all CHROMIX Admixturesconform to the following specifications:ASTM C 494, AASHTO M 194, andCRD C 87.

As formulated coloringagents, they conform to ASTM C CHROMIX Admixtures meet therequirements of the Uniform BuildingCode and the Standard Building Codefor use in reinforced and prestressedconcrete, and are approved by the Cityof Los Angeles under its classification L.
