Council SummaryAs a business executive, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) challenges executive leadership to thinkstrategically about digital disruptions that are forcing business models to change andtechnology s rolein mission delivery. This section includes statutory responsibilities of CIOs related to leadership andaccountability. The statutory language isdirectly pulledfrom applicable laws and executive statutory responsibilities are then implemented through OMB guidance and guidance from othergovernment-wide organizations. This language, along with the language in othersections under theheading CIO Responsibilities-Laws and Executive Orders, defines the CIO role and gives the CIO theirstatutory Responsibilities1.[CIO] of an executive agency is responsible for providing advice and otherassistance to thehead of the executive agency and other senior management personnel of the executive agencyto ensure that information technology is acquired and information resources are managed forthe executive agency in a manner that implements the priorities established by the head of theexecutive [CIO] designated under paragraph (2) shall head an office responsible for ensuring agencycompliance with and prompt, efficient, and effective implementation of the informationpoliciesand information resources management responsibilities established under this subchapter,including the reduction of information collection burdens on the public.
