2 This report contains a compilation of all workers compensation claims indexed by the New york city Law DEPARTMENT during 2006. In accordance with Section 12-127 the report includes a breakdown of the expenses paid, a list of specific claims for each agency, as well as specific types and locations of injuries. This report also contains year-to-year comparisons of the information compiled in 2005 and 2006. The report contains records for all entities whose workers compensation claims are administered by the New york city Law DEPARTMENT : The city of New york , The New york city Health & Hospitals Corporation, and The DEPARTMENT of Education of The city of New york , The city University of New york and the New york city Board of Elections.

3 The information for individual claims includes the date of injury (or disablement), the injured body part(s) and the location at which the injury occurred. The claims are grouped by agency. A blank entry following a date of injury indicates that the Law DEPARTMENT was not provided with information relating to the body part(s) and/or the location of the injury. A summary of the costs incurred on these claims by each agency during 2006 is provided at the end of each section of the report. These costs include wage replacement, medical costs and penalties, as well as the overall costs.

4 Also listed are the number of claims filed on behalf each agency during the year. The Report is accessible on the DEPARTMENT of Records website, under Government Publications. This annual Report contains a compilation of all workers compensation claims indexed by the New york city Law DEPARTMENT during 2006. These claims include those of employees of The city of New york , The New york city Health and Hospitals Corporation, the DEPARTMENT of Education of the city of New york , the city University of New york and the New york city Board of Elections.

9 A total of 14,622 new claims were received in 2006. This number represents a slight decrease ( ) in claims when compared with 2005. The total amount paid in 2006 with respect to these claims was $ million. This includes $ million for wage replacement and $ million for medical costs. This represents an increase of 5% when compared with payments made in 2005. The largest numbers of claims came from the following five agencies: DEPARTMENT of Education (3636), Health and Hospitals Corporation (2998), Fire DEPARTMENT (1623), Police DEPARTMENT (1483), DEPARTMENT of Correction (1341).

10 These agencies account for approximately 76% of all claims made in 2006. The leading agencies in terms of cost were: Health and Hospitals Corporation ($ million), DEPARTMENT of Education ($ million), Police DEPARTMENT ($ million), DEPARTMENT of Correction ($866,000), Fire DEPARTMENT ($598,000).
