Class Three Welcome Letter Dear Parents,

1 ClassThreeWelcome LetterDear Parents, Welcome to the start of a new year inClass year, Ms Ovigne will be working on Mondays, Tuesdaysand,Wednesdaymornings. Mrs Wood will be in Class on Wednesday afternoonsandall day Thursdayand MrsHoskinswillbe workingwith groups throughout the timeYou will note on the timetable there are periods marked PPA time. This isthe teacher's Planning, Preparation and Assessment time that all teachersare now entitled to during the working day. We are lucky that this timewillbecovered byMrs Cox who is veryfamiliar toallthe children. PPAafternoons will occur on alternate Monday and Wednesday sessions have been planned by us and weare confident that they willbe delivered competently and without child will continue to bring home areadingbook every day to sharewith you.

If your child needs a new book, please help him/her tochoose one from the appropriatecolourin the morning, before Class will try to ensure that your child is heardreadweeklyby a teacher,teaching assistant or volunteer. However at certain times ofthe year,events may conspire to make this reading sessions at home with a parentiskey to a child s successin reading,but also in many other areas of the curriculum. It is importantthat you comment in the reading diaries givingat least the date and thepage number reached, but preferably also a comment. Shared reading anddiscussion of the story are very helpful.

3 Please encourage your child toread with expression, and to express opinions about the characters in thestory, theplot, and what might happen list ofspellingsfor each week willbe placedin your child s spelling bookafter an initial spelling assessment has been help yourchild to learn their spellings and other words with the same child will be tested in Class onFridaywith the words books will be returned to your childon Fridayafternoon with anew set of words to ensure that your child s spelling book isalways brought into school in their book Three children may attimes get additional spelling homework based on the sounds or rules theyhave been learning in help your child with their mental manipulation ofnumberstoincrease their confidence and speed.

These are great for long car journeys or bath times!By the end of Year Two all children are expected to know theirmultiplication factsfor 2, 5 and 10 and the related division facts,including multiples of 2, 5 and 10. They will need to know the tables offby heart and to be able to recall multiplication facts out of context andpossibly using a range of vocabulary What is six lots of five, or sixtimes five. There are lots of fun activities and games for you you would like to do additional numeracy work at home with your child,we recommend the Year Two andThree mathsworkout books, publishedby cgpbooks, which can be purchased on line ( ).PunctualityWe would ask that all children arrive in school punctually in the morningsand say goodbye to parents and adults inthe hall or cloakroom. 6 Please can you encourage your child to change theirmaths game BottlesPlease ensure your child brings a named bottle to school every day, filledonly with water (no squash or juice). We do not have facilities for them tohave any other drinks during the day, except with school dinners, and adehydrated child cannot perform to their full potential.
