2 Doha was host to the 1st GECF Summit in 2011, and it is here that the highest leadership of the forum is meeting again a decade later to set the future direction of this important energy to the Doha-head-quartered Gas Exporting Countries Forum, it is being held at a timely juncture the world has started re-covering from the dramatic adverse consequences of Covid-19 pandemic. Commodity markets in general and natural gas markets in particular, have witnessed the gyrations of extreme volatility even as the COP26 outcome constituted a landmark milestone in the global eff orts of mitigating and adapting to climate change. Mean-while, the progress towards achieving UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has slowed whilst alleviating energy poverty eff orts have gas, which is one of the fos-sil fuels, enjoys a large share of global consumption.

3 This has made this in-dustry face many global challenges, not in terms of the increasing energy demand, but in terms of environmen-tal, social, and economic aspects in both exporting and importing coun-tries. There is no doubt that the State of Qatar, as the largest producer of liq-uefi ed natural gas in the world, and chair of the upcoming forum, will play a leading and infl uential role in encouraging regional and interna-tional dialogue and enhancing the position of natural gas as the cleanest fossil fuel and future energy source, leading to low-carbon economies, offi cial Qatar News Agency forums have become one of the most important forums that bring to-gether decision-makers and special-ised experts to discuss issues related to the natural gas industry and trade and ways to promote it to enhance the position of this resource as a source of clean energy in the world.
