APPPENDIX 2 COMPARISON CHART FOR VARIOUS CHILLERS Direct replacement chiller from Carrier Equivalent chiller from Trane Industrial Frigo chiller (option for R290 low GWP alternate) (option for R717 low GWP alternate) Model 30GX-122 RTAD 145 GRAV-480 GPAV-480 HSO-4221 Cooling capacity 7/12/28 ambient Refrigerant R410a R134a R407c or R 407F R290 R717 GWP 1890 1300 1650 or 1824 3 0 Gas charge kg 60 70 60 36 40 Notes on Refrigerant Safe F Gas Regulated controlled substance Safe F Gas Regulated controlled substance Safe F Gas Regulated controlled substance Flammable Not regulated under F gas as a controlled substance Flammable and Toxic Not regulated under F gas As a controlled substance ABS Power kW COP (EER) Cooling capacity 7/12/25 ambient ABS Power kW COP (EER) chiller cost GBP 72,000 71,000 77,000 88,000 190,000 Installation cost GBP * 75,000 75,000 75,000 75,000 85,000 Operating cost per annum GBP 33826 30003 28403 29313 26069 Expected life span of machinery 15-20 Years 15-20 Years 25 Years 25 Years 30-40 Years Maintenance cost per annum GBP 2000 2000 2000 2000 6000 Pro s Cheaper Installation costs compared to the Ammonia option.

Annual Maintenance costs cheaper due to biannual checks rather than bi monthly Cheaper Installation costs compared to the Ammonia option. Annual Maintenance costs cheaper due to biannual checks rather than bi- monthly Cheaper Installation costs compared to the Ammonia option. Annual Maintenance costs cheaper due to biannual checks rather than bi-monthly Cheaper Installation costs compared to the Ammonia option. Annual Maintenance costs cheaper due to biannual checks rather than bi- monthly Considered to be an Environmentally Friendly gas as it has a very low GWP Also considered as Future Safe insofar as there are no moves to withdraw it from the market place in the foreseeable future A very efficient refrigerant gas Projected running costs lower compared to HFC but slightly more than ammonia based gas Plant Considered to be the most Environmentally Friendly gas as it is Carbon Neutral Also considered as Future Safe insofar as there are no moves to withdraw it from the market place in the foreseeable future Most efficient refrigerant gas available Projected running costs lower compared to HFC or HC based gas Plant Cons Still a HFC based Plant which may be

Outlawed in the future Less efficient than Ammonia or HC based Plant Projected running costs higher compared to Ammonia or HC based gas Plant Still a HFC based Plant which may be outlawed in the future Less efficient than Ammonia or HC based Plant Projected running costs higher compared to Ammonia or HC based gas Plant Still a HFC based Plant which may be outlawed in the future Less efficient than Ammonia or HC based Plant Projected running costs higher compared to Ammonia or HC based gas Plant More expensive Plant compared to HFC based due to the flammability of R290 Requires some additional incorporated safety measures compared to HFC to reduce risk of leakage Maintenance costs are the same for HFC based gas plant More expensive Plant compared to HFC based due to the toxicity and flammability of Ammonia Requires considerable safety measures incorporated to reduce risk of leakage Maintenance costs more expensive than HFC based Plant as checks by law have to be monthly rather than biannually.

* Pump power has not been included, only the power of the compressors / chiller has been considered for the operating cost, which ever option is chosen, the pumping element would be the same. Note 1 COP is the ratio of the cooling load to the absorbed power, this is directly related to the evaporating and condensing temperatures, the closer APPPENDIX 2 these temperatures are together, the COP increases due a reduction in the compression ratio and absorbed power. To reduce the condensing temperature or increase evaporator temperature, larger heat exchangers are required and therefore the machinery cost increases. Running costs are based on 60% operation of one circuit only. Note 2 The increased cost for the R290 chiller is due to additional components, refrigerant gas detector, oil separators and other internal items.

Note 3 The maintenance cost for a HFC and a HC chiller should be approximately the same and is based on two service visit per annum to comply with current regulations, this price is for general maintenance and not for breakdown or refrigerant leakages. The maintenance cost for an ammonia chiller is significantly more.
